Boy, War, The Unforgettable Fire, The Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby, Zooropa and (in my personal opinion) Pop. These are SEVEN top drawer albums right there, there are very very few artists who can deliver that amount of quality. Insane to think that's the same amount of albums Oasis released. Definiely Maybe, What's The Story, Be Here Now, Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants, Heathen Chemistry, Don't Believe The Truth, Dig Out Yer Soul There are SEVEN, SIX, FIVE, FOUR, ermm.... THREE (!) top drawer albums right there.

You really need to listen to their very early stuff like Boy, War etc, some of their best songs are on these albums, songs like Electric Co, Out Of Control, 40, An Cat Dubh, I Will Follow. I did, and I do like them; I just get a bit defensive over the '90s albums. Out Of Control is brilliant, especially the live performances! While we're at it, October is their worst (out of the early ones, at least) - I hardly ever listen to it. At its worst, October sounds like a jamming session - the songs sound unfinished (as a matter of fact, they were). That said, there are some of U2's best moments on that album - Gloria, Tomorrow and the title track are all great songs.

War.
I used to be a big U2 fan in past. Loved Boy, October, War and Unforgettable Fire. Loved the band in that era and Edge is still one of my favourite guitarist, but I just don't get Bono recent years. I don't believe music save the world. To me it's a naive idea, but it's just me.

The Unforgettable Fire and War. Achtung Baby being the 3rd. Updated: 1. The Unforgettable Fire 2. The Joshua Tree 3. Achtung Baby Those are my top 3. I still have to listen to POP, Zooropa and All that You Can't Leave Behind. I can definitely understand AB as people's number one. Zoo Stations roars in the album with fresh and innovate sound, and that tracklist is just immense. Standout tracks for me: Zoo Station Even Better than the Real Thing One The Fly Love Is Blindness

The only flaw of Pop is Miami and plaboy mansion. Also having that video for Discoteque didnt helped at all.

Do You Feel Love came on my iPhone today. Great song. I have to listen to this album! It's worth it, but I will say that it takes a serious listen. It may be named Pop, and look like it indulges into pop culture, but it does so in a way that it is a facade for something deep and hard-hitting (except for Miami and Discotheque; Miami is meh) It also has a cool progression from being a party at the beginning to being really mellowed out at the end of it. Don't let that catch you off guard, though. Please and Wake Up Dead Man are the two hardest hitting songs, and they are the closing two tracks.

Let's not hate on Miami, people. Absolutely savage song with wicked guitars and an awesome intro. And also the place on the album where the irony goes overboard, but that's why I love it.

In fact, I think it was probably the perfect song for Pop since Bono sings about being lost in pop culture, and not fitting in well, but knowing that in the end, he'll go to Heaven, thanks to having faith in God & not falling into being soulless and a sell-out, even though that's exactly what people thought before digging deep into what they were getting at with the album. Such a shame that this flopped, but I think that if it had been released today, with the band's former popularity height and things they had in mind when making this album, it would've been a success. That's worthy of another long-winded post for another thread though.

Pop is massively underrated.
Gone and Last Night on Earth are both in my personal top ten of U2 tracks.

A dance track that has heavy Edge and a traditional mixture of U2,this is just fucking awesome and shows how U2 easily changed their sound whilst remaining true to their roots. Really wish they'd done a full album of dance stuff....

The answer is, and will always be Pop. Probably the most ridiculous and crazy thing ever released by a band of their stature. The U2 of today couldn't write that album to save their lives.
