Since The Masterplan was released soon after BHN, mostly in response to the (unjustified) backlash against BHN, and received better reviews overall than BHN, what do you guys think? Which is the stronger release overall? Or are they not comparable? Personally I'd go with BHN every single day of the fucking week.

The Masterplan is really good if you treat it like a real album, nearly on par with DM and WTSMG and including some superb potential singles (Acquiesce, Listen Up, The Masterplan). Still - BHN is one of a kind, absurd and wonderful. I know Noel said that the Masterplan actually contains more interesting music, but the progress from WTSMG to BHN is real, and I wouldn't want to miss BHN ina million years.

Be Here Now - it has D'You Know What I Mean? on it.
Comparing them as albums, it'd've been interesting if Round Are Way and maybe Sad Song had got on instead of I Am The Walrus and Swamp Song, to improve the flow of it and simply because Round Are Way deserves to be on there and I Am The Walrus doesn't. Now, that would have been a tough call!

I adore both of them. It's just two amazing collection of songs, but I think The Masterplan has the better. But, and I will always say that, Be Here Now is fuckin' amazing. By miles, their 3rd best album (if you don't count The Masterplan). Not an album came close after. D'You Know What I Mean, All Around The World, Stand By Me, Don't Go Away, I Hope I Think I Know, etc, on the same album, far from shit, innit ?

Be Here Now. As Masterplan is a compilation and not really a comparable album. What next? Beatles 1 vs Rubber Soul.

Now, that would have been a tough call! Love this. D'You Know What I Mean? Is a juggernaut of a tune. It was a lot harder to choose between these than I thought, and I sometimes think The Masterplan is the best Oasis album. Sometimes. Be Here Now just works so well as an album, is so huge and has such an identity. And I've always found it weird that Round Are Way wasn't on The Masterplan. Surely it's one of their biggest/best b-sides? I suppose the only problem is, Oasis have too many great b-sides from this period. I mean if it was on the album we'd be saying the same about Cloudburst, or Spaceman, or The Fame, or Flashbax etc etc

Song for song The Masterplan pretty much creams it, however I don't think they're really comparitable.
To kill two birds with one stone, I don't recognise The Masterplan as an album but rather an iTunes holding pen, which provides a nice official home for a handful of the band's early b-sides, however poorly picked they were. I pick and choose at them like they're a list, rather than the considered full length listening experience it actually is. Compilations and LP's are simply apples and oranges as far as I'm concerned.

Be Here Now!
I always felt The Masterplan was a tad overrated.

Round are way instead of Swamp. 100% agree
Instead of Walrus??? I know it technically wasn't a bside but it had never appeared on an album. And was / is without a shadow of a doubt an absolute masterpiece.
Of course I am talking about Whatever.

How can you compare a compilation album to a studio album?
I Am the Walrus and The Swamp Song deserves to be on The Masterplan. I think it should have been 15 or 16 songs with Round Are Way and/of Sad Song/D'Yer Wanna Be a Spaceman?

Voted for Be Here Now.
OBVIOUSLY The Masterplan is better. But I'm not settling for that. Be Here Now means too much to be second best here.

They aren't comparable.
But I listen to The Masterplan more. For the longest time, I only had that and Don't Believe The Truth until Stop The Clocks came out.

It's a fucking travesty that "Round Are Way" isn't on The Masterplan.

You're all talking about Round Are Way but the real travesty's that D'Yer Wanna Be A Spaceman isn't on The Masterplan

I love Round Are Way, reminds me of home and being young which I suppose is the point of the song. Mission accomplished.

Really tough,
My head says The Masterplan but heart says Be Here Now and I think that's sums up both albums,
The Masterplan has the better songs but obviously sounds disjointed because its a compilation and therefore feels hollow. Be Here Now lacks truly great songs but the overall vibe and the mad journey it takes you on probably means more to me,
If The Masterplan was a proper album, recorded in the same sessions and got rid of the live song in the middle it would probably be Oasis' second best album IMO and be Oasis' third all time classic but as it is, I think I prefer Be Here Now

Easy one The Masterplan. Be Here Now doesn't even come close and it's not even that good.
