I've been listening to the Glastonbury 2007 gig on Youtube
Kasabian were amazing. Shit all over the Arctic Monkeys. Kasabian are the second best band, after our Oasis.
But thats all beside the point.
Bloc Party (I know they have mixed feelings on this board), i love them though. Especially their first album, Silent Alarm. His voice is amazing. BUT, live it's utter shit. Bloc Party are shit live.
But it's not only them.
Kooks had a great debut. And the singer isnt horrible live, but he isnt good either.
The View are ea joke. They cant even hold guitars properly. The singer is inconsistent. They want to be the Kooks, but they will never be.
The Twang may not have the best lyrics around, but after Oasis, Kasabian, and Arctic Monkeys, they are a good live band. But once again, singer needs to improve!
-- This all should make you realize how lucky we are to have Liam. From 1994-2003ish he had a very strong voice, in the studio and live. Thats 9 fantastic years. Most bands struggle to get 1 good performance, let alonee 9 years worth!
Whether it's bc of the smoking and drinking, the strain bc of his stance or due to over singing, or his voice simply wearing out is open to debate. Probably a combination of all of those elements.
But it hardly matters. Bitching about his voice wont change it.
When Liam has a bad performance now, it's horrible. And it's frustrating for us fans. But he still has his voice, albeit more mature sound, as seen in the Manchester gig in 2005.
I say, embrace the new Liam. Turn Up The Sun, Lyla, Love Like A Bomb...all fantastic new songs, to fit his new voice.
So, he cant sing C&A as well? so what! We've been hearing that for over a decade now. It's time for a change.
Personally, i dont give a shit about his live voice as much as i do about the passion. Once Noel, Andy, Geem, Zak, Liam show they dont care, once that fire is gone, once they lack energy, only then Oasis will be finished.
Liam's voice problem maybe the beginning of the end. But it definitely is not the end.
Noel sounds better than ever. The guitars are still fuckin amazing. And Zak seems to be the best drummer we've had to far.
Another 2 albums at the very least. And the next one will be monumental.
Don't believe the truth.
Viva la Oasis!

If liam would just stop shouting live , I think he would be better off.

Well, he still sounds fuckin' great in studio.... his vocals in Lyla are amazing.... I don't know why he sounds so awful live these days... that's because there is software that allows off-key and out of tune notes to become in tune. it's a popular thing to be used nowadays, especially amongst pop stars (such as paris hilton (year, pop star...), christina aguilera, etc.)

yeah but it's not his pitch that's the problem, it's his quality. at times he is pushing so hard and he gets that throaty thing going on that you hear in country music alot, i've noticed the more gigs he does the worse it gets, so perhaps it's easier for him in the studio because he hasn't been touring for weeks. OR could it be that he doesn't try as hard as he used to? lets face it when is the last time he held out shiiineee. i don't think he is putting as much into it as he used to because when he tries and he's more nasaly he sounds better but there are times when i can tell he doesnt give a fuck
they did use protools but there are still a few places where if it was anybody else they would be going sharp, but it isn't of course, its liam and Liams voice has a natural lovely but chalk board scratching sharp to it so if they did use protools they didn't do much...

I started buying into the whole liam's voice is crap nowadays, so I looked back at some of the earlier gigs he did. His voice in 94-95 was good, but in 96 he had some shitty vocals. Don't tell me the MTV awards in 96 were better than the recent Brits, because it's bullshit Knebworth was mega, but Liam wasn't blowing me away. His voice can't go as high now, but he sustains his raspe and liamisms so much better nowadays. He did Stop Crying Your Heart Out in Mandrid in 05 and it was pretty damn good, and it's not an easy song. The first half of the DBTT tour was as good as anything since 2000. This whole liam's voice is shot, youtube his sessions with Death in Vegas, it shows him in the studio, with no "altering" belting out that song.
Liam's had some terrible vocal performances recently with Glasto and most of the lyla live stuff, but don't think he's shot. He's fuckin 34.
