While rewatching some of the better HFB videos on YouTube, I started looking at the view counts of the HFB1 and the CY videos. The numbers are pretty interesting:
TDOYAM - 6.5 million views (4 years) IIHAG - 5 million views (4 years) What a Life - 2 million views (4 years) Dream On - 1.2 million views (3.5 years) EOTR - 0.9 million views (3.5 years)
ITHOTM - 1.1 million views (1 year) Do the Damage - 0.9 million views (1 year) BOTMI - 4.1 million views (9 months) Riverman - 1 million views (6 months) LATD - 0.5 million views (3 months)
Now, obviously the older videos will have more views on average, but BOTMI is already in the same area as the first two HFB singles after only 9 months - easily surpassing What a Life (might have to do with that surreal as fuck video and its 3 minutes of Russell Brand being Russell Brand) and every other CY single. Also Riverman, despite being released after the album was out, is closing in on ITHOTM, and Do the Damage is very solid for a b-side (I remember many people, me included, preferring it to the actual single at the time).
Now I don't know how much inofficial videos or things like Spotify (which wasn't nearly as big in 2011) distort the numbers here, but from just looking at the official stuff, people seem to really love BOTMI and Riverman, while I'd say ITHOTM has disappointingly few views for the lead single.
Remembering how people were comparing the numbers for ITHOTM with TDOYAM a year ago (with early interest in TDOYAM being much higher), the success of the other singles suggests that ITHOTM wasn't the perfect lead single, doesn't it?

I still think BOTMI should've been the lead single. It's one of the biggest favourites among fans and it's one of the best on the album. The strategy of releasing a weaker single first and then the best one may have worked a decade ago, but now it makes for disappointing chart figures. BOTMI was what, 75? Ridiculous.

The numbers kinda prove that, right? Was the first thing that came to mind for me as well. ITHOTM is catchy and radio friendly, but people, in the end, didn't really love it. I guess the crowd here has always felt the same way.
BOTMI is such an obvious recipe for success too - you've got Johnny Marr, the WAL sound, a better chorus too. And funnily enough, as much as I love CY, I don't see another fitting lead single - Riverman? YKWCGB?

IMO, YKWCGN, TDOTL and BOTMI are the only fitting lead singles, depending on which time in the year the album would be released.

YNWCGB may have been a good single, hard to say.

I think I am one of the less who loves In the Heat of the Moment. It would have been better without the nanana's. My leadsingle: Ballad of the Mighty I Second: The Dying of the Light Third: In the Heat of the Moment Fourth: You Know We Can't Go Back/Lock All the Doors
Riverman isn't a song for the radio. The Girl with X-Ray Eyes would be a good radiosong too

Audio : 1.8 million Noisey : 2.5 million VEVO : 1.1 million // 5.4 million

Well for some reason now I cannot watch any of Noel's videos. It says it's not available. I also cannot watch his RTE performance of Dying of the Light. I am in the US but I've always been able to watch them. Maybe they are changing things now with the new YouTube Red paid subscription service. If so then..... Fuck!!!

TDOYAM is probably by default with it being his first single in all fairness. Beady eye have 2,207,214 for Bring the light and then 2,531,805 for Four letter word as they were new Gallagher stuff (Do like FLW for what it's worth but would never dream of looking at Bring the light ever again same as I would only hear TDOYAM live) I expect Mighty I will end up being the biggest and probably would be now if it wasn't for the yapping at the start. When you compare the view counts to other Gallagher stuff it seems mad that the Beat Goes On beats most of Noel's views with 5,374,117. Edit: Go on Oasis' Vevo and Stand by Me has 23,232,317, Stop Crying Your Heart Out has 20,630,139 but Don't look Back In Anger has 6,004,665 but if go on the official Oasis channel and there is 160,927,473 views for Wonderwall and 49 million or so for Don't Look Back In Anger, so guess what i'm saying is with the other sources it isn't really a true reflection unless you look around. I know personally if for example I wanted to watch the video to If I Had A Gun on you tube I wouldn't make sure it was the official Noel channel, i'll just pick whatever is at the top, it's only on live performances I may scroll down a few and see which sounds best

Just watching the BOTMI video again for the first time in a while. Have those red chords Noel’s wearing ever seen the light of day since?!
