We all know about Noel's penchant for all things Beatles related, but I was thinking to myself that if Noel had to be inspired by a Beatles associated project, he could do no worse than look to Paul McCartney's collaboration with Youth on The Fireman's Electric Arguments. It's a Macca solo album with all songs written by him, but what sets it out from all his other solo albums is that it the most sonically ambitious album he's made these last four decades in my opinion. I think the comparison is fair - at that stage of McCartney's career, I think his solo work of late had been dogged by its conservative nature. Yet it's not 'far out' - the songs are still there but it's just that they are dressed up in a much more elaborate manner.

Can you please take off that Beatles t-shirt before you jinx the band and they break up. Thanks.

Temporary Secretary is an absolute hit. I've had the dubious pleasure of hearing it live. The mindfuck that occured in the audience was just awesome.

I don't know what the obsession is with sounding different and having to try new things. As long as the album is good I don't care what direction it takes.

His first album is flat as a pancake, as is some of his second one. Merely good will only take some fans so far who are fed up with tired rehashes of better songs.

For instance, I like dance-rock music, but there are a lot of great dance-rock albums out there. I do not need Noel to do one himself. What I want from his album is 10 great melodic songs (as we got in CY, IMHO). If he wants to experiment with the sound, I'am fine with it (believe me, I will not get frightened), but if he wants to continue with the oasis template then, hey, 10 great oasis-like songs every 3 years do not seem too many for me

I don't know what the obsession is with sounding different and having to try new things. As long as the album is good I don't care what direction it takes. The reason is that, as with any artistic endeavor, maintaining a fixed style provides diminishing returns. It simply limits inspiration and creative thought. When an artist treads new ground, there's no chance to set the autopilot, things have to be thought out. The risk for disaster is greater, but it usually pays off in the end as long as the artist is discerning and can evaluate the result properly. Change is essential to keep an artistic career interesting in the long term.

I think that had a lot to do with the production, it sounded very dated, it wasn't the actual songs that were at fault but I see where you're coming from. Don't get me wrong I'm all for Noel trying new things but I don't see it as the be all and end all like some. I think the most important thing is that the songs are good, I don't care if that's 10 songs of Noel doing acoustic stuff or 10 songs like The Right Stuff, I just want it to be a good listen. When I listen to a song I need there to be a good melody, the song can be all dressed up nicely and "forward thinking" but if the melody isn't there, I'm not interested, and that's where Noel shines, his melodies.

I don't like his first album apart from a few a tracks like Everybody's On The Run, If I Had A Gun, The Death of You and Me and Wrong Beach. But I absolutelly love Chasing Yesterday, from start to finish! Of course it's an album of Noel's usual sound, but I love it. I'm really looking forward to this new one.

I agree, I can't blame the individual songs, just how they were interpreted. It's why I go back to Macca's Fireman project - these are conventionally structured pop songs but have psychedelic and ambient textures to really help the songs flourish. I'm not asking for an avant garde project but a body of work which really distinguishes these songs from other albums. Melody is all important but how that melody is conveyed in the studio is equally important as it complements the overall mood. Gas Panic is the perfect example of this with sinister lyrics, and the chilling mood of that song is driven home by the weird psychedelic sounds going on in that one. In a way, I'm using that song as an example of excellent production techniques that strengthened the song and I'd be delighted to hear that effort on his new album.

Ive said before that Noel is beyond simply creating an acceptable record, his bar is higher than that, chasing yesterday is good dont get me wrong but some of the songs are in that zone of "ive heard this before", I personally feel that Noel has reached a point for me where Id rather hear something different.
If he releases a record in the same style again then I will still enjoy it but I cant deny I wont be feeling slightly disappointed at Noel being safe yet again.
fact is "BOTMI" intrigues me the most out of both records because its something Im not used to hearing from Noel.

Reckon Damon will return the favour, and offer up a pointless inaudible backing vocal on NGHFB#3? lol

Noel should gain some weight before he goes on one of his large world tours. Looks like he's about to fall over. Too many juice cleanses and macro diets with Sara.

I'd prefer to listen to that rather than EOTR or Record Machine.

I can imagine you would have been very popular at the start of the 'Be Here Now' Tour with Noel & Co. as the 'Dietitian' in a similar way as described by Dara O' Briain

Hahahaha, the coke bloat days ah yes. Find a happy medium Noel. The late, great Margaret Rutherford played a happy if somewhat eccentric medium in 'Blithe Spirit', but since she is no longer with us and I doubt that was the definition you meant that probably isn't very helpful
