Continuing on from the 'Magic Pie' thread I thought it would be interesting to discuss and hear other peoples thoughts on a few more controversial cuts from the Oasis discography. So this time, I've selected an even more polarizing track from everyone's favourite album... 'Force Of Nature'.
"Aaaaaaaaaaaa... Dum-da-cha, Da-dum-da-cha, Da-dum-da-cha, Da-dum-da-cha..."
Oh boy. If there's one song whose reputation has surprised me since visiting this forum, it's this one. Something about this song just rubs people up the wrong way and whatever it is I simply don't get it. People must be on a different wavelength or something, because this track, 'Force Of Nature', is fucking great in my book. As soon as I first heard this song, way, way back, it jumped out as being one of the good ones. One of those where you high five Noel in your head, acknowledging he's can still pull a tune out of the bag when he needs too. And it was this immediacy I got that had me convinced that everyone, surely, must like this song. It felt so obvious in it's likability that upon slowly grasping the general consensus of this cool Oasis forum I had just found, I was left pretty confused and non the wiser as it just didn't connect with so many people. And I still am! Now I'm not saying it's as good as many of the great singles the band released, album to album, but after them, this is the kind of song which makes my post-90s 'Best Of'. It's a song I really enjoy and unlike many, have no confusion why Noel considered it for single release. Like 'Magic Pie' I'd rate it a healthy 8.5.
Anyway... what's your opinion on 'Force Of Nature' and how would you rate it?

Ahaha. I love Force of Nature AND The Nature of Reality too.
It's not the best off HC, but I'd put it up there with the singles, before She Is Love.

I couldnt believe that distortion could sound tired until I heard this track. It has a drumloop which maked you wonder if it's going to be like Gas Panic(listen to the drums in that, how the drums kick in, amazing) but doesnt develops beyond the 12 bar blues. A miss, and the piano outro with whatever Noel says is pointless(afterwards we hear a whistle!).

Great angst-driven rocker with attitude. I don't get the haters either. I like Nature too, good track.

I like it and have always liked it.
While it's no classic by any means I don't think it's bad either. It's angry and it fucking rocks. Also, I really like Noel's voice on it. He sounds awesome and did it live really well too.
I give it a 7.

Off the top of my head one of my least favorite Noel written Oasis songs, standing better only against PAIMM and Mucky Fingers(really hate that song)

3/10. Its always stood out as one of the worst songs by bands I liked. Its just so uninspired, and Id dread to think what reputation it would have if it was a Liam written song.

God awful, easily one of Oasis' worst songs. Terrible plodding dad rock with appallingly bad lyrics.

Great track. Always liked it. And I also really like mucky fingers. Both get a firm 7/10 for me.
To me heathen chemistry has the best 6 track run from the start. Not an amazing run of 6 tracks ( Besides SCYHO and songbird) But Nothing to grumble about.
Giants gets screwed by PMWYMI Don't believe the truth gets screwed by Love like a bomb Dig out your soul "kind of" gets screwed by High Horse Lady
Just my opinion FFS

There isn't that many songs by Oasis that I would be embarrassed to play to my friends in public as a representation of the band. This is one of them.

It's not necessarily a bad song (even if it's not necessarily a good one), but the execution is poor in every way. If I had to pick a song to describe as 'plodding', i would be this one. In fact, if I had to pick a song to describe as 'Dad-Rock' it would be this one. Not even somehting by Dire Straits (although the song is dire). The production is apalling, the tempo is too slow, Noel's vocal steamrollers any nuance from the song, and the lyrics didn't leave it with much, the plodding piano is atrocious, but worst of all, the band plays with absolutely no conviction, and it just comes across as bored and tired. If the band played like they meant it, Liam sang it and they got rid of the weird slightly-oompah rhythm, it could have been a pretty good song, and a genuinely good album track. Because the chorus melody is a belter, and live it's a good sing-a-long. If Liam couldn't sing it they should have just changed key. Noel wanted it for himself, and he's welcome to it, but it's a missed opportunity and probably exaggerates what was wrong with Oasis at this point in time.
PS - (Force of) Nature

Force Of Nature is the musical equivalent of a stale loaf of bread.

The production is so awful that even Dave Sardy would've saved the song.

It's not bad, but it could've been a lot better. I think that's because of the production, and also the mucking about in the end of the song that drags it out a bit too far than it needed to. The raw instrumentation (guitars, piano, harmonica), drum loop, and Noel's delivery are all great things about the song, but they don't come across right with the way they produced this song. I think it would've come across better had it been on DOYS or DBTT, where there was more an emphasis on the raw nature of the song. All in all, 6/10. Nothing truly great (besides Noel's chorus delivery ), and nothing truly bad, to me at least

7/10? Really? Its a plodding bollock of a tune. If people give that 7 out of 10 what would they give say, Up In The Sky? Hey Now!? Turn Up The Sun? 12 out of 10?

I give it a solid 7.
Some call it plodding, I just like the way it effortlessly struts along before rolling into that roaring chorus that nobody really expects on first listen.
I always get hooked on that loping groove of the "it's all over town that the Suns going down on the days of your easy life", and then it returns to the point where the verse can just build again.
It's a difficult one to describe but I certainly wouldn't call this song a "bollock".
