I seem to remember that Let the Lord Shine a Light on Me is a really old song, dating back maybe even to HC Oasis days? Is this true or is it just another false rumor?

It is a leftover song, apparently. A lot of people say it is, but I'm not sure from when. I'm doing research right now.

I've personally never heard any of those rumours. From what I know there's no evidence that it was written, demoed or recorded in any way prior to the recording of the HFB debut in 2010/11. There's also no clue that it might have been recorded for the AA album.
It was engineered by Strangeboy Stacey and produced by Noel himself, just like the other first album b-sides, so the credits neither give any more insight. Apparently it's festuring two female vocals, though I can only identify a single voice, namely by Cherrelle Rose and Joy Rose-Thomas (who is also featured on CY).
Just judging by the fact that the song was absent from Faster Than The Speed of Magic (which featured the album and its regular b-sides except this one) or the leaked demo cd and that basically all of those versions were most certainly written and/or even recorded prior to the split, I'd say it was written post Oasis split. Then again, from what we've learnt about Noel's songwriting approach, I wouldn't be surprised if the verse melody had been around since 1992.

The most important question in here is: Was he inspired to write the chorus while walking down a Tesco?

I was under the impression it dates from around DBTT era, I'm sure it was written during Oasis like most songs from HFB 1?
EDIT: Scratch that, I've been getting mixed up with Let It Come Down Over Me all this time, duh!
