In their prime its no question, Liam was stunningly good in the 90's. Not a knock on Ashcroft who's overall much more talented IMO but vocally he can't touch RKID.

I love them both a lot, and even though they have similar kind of voices, I feel as if Ashcroft puts more emotion into his singing. It sounds more emotional too.

Maybe it seems that way because Richard Ashcroft wrote the majority of the songs as well as singing them, so he knew exactly what the songs meant emotionally to him. I think songs like Slide Way, Listen Up, Some Might Say, Don't Go Away, I'm Outta Time and a lot of songs on BE are dripping with emotion from Liam's singing. I'd go with Liam's voice ahead of Richard's. Just.

If you have a singer who knows or is gifted at their craft, they can make any song sound like it's theirs, even if he/she didn't write a note of it. Liam would be a fine example of this on the early Oasis songs.

With anyone else on vocal duties, Wonderwall would have become a generic love song (seriously, go on YouTube and watch any cover you see - including Noely G's! - and I bet you'll want to hurl when they get to the "I don't believe that anybody feels the way I do about you now" line), but Liam played it totally straight and just barked the lyrics out. That in-your-face, almost punky delivery forces you to stand up and notice it. Very few vocalists are so distinctive.

For a comparison to Liam (love them both as front men and singers tbh) Wow! Absolutely amazing... I won't dare to pick one of them over the other. They're both definitely two of my favourite singers. Unfortunately with Liam, you always have to add "in his prime"

Unfortunately you're asking a biased forum.... Both are great though - that video of Ashcroft....

FYI I didn't say Richard was better than Liam (in his prime), I was merely stating that his performances sound more emotional to me.

What is Richard even up to these days? Was his last album the one with the united nations of sound? He's been out of the spotlight for a long time now....

Last confirmed studio work was with ex OCS bassist Damon Minchella tweeting in early 2014 he was in studio with him, but nothing emerged, believe he played some low key acoustic gigs that year too. And yes RPA & THe United Nations was his last to date.

Liam in his prime - from 1994-1997 is by far my favorite rock n' roll vocalist ever. You could extend that period to 2001, but he became inconsistent around 1998. Richard isn't a slouch either, there's a reason why Chris Martin stated that he was the greatest singer on Earth. My favorite aspect about Richard's voice is that he so soulful. Songs like Mahammad Ali and Chic Dub are awesome. The soulful vocals over the psychedelic and jazzy instrument was what made the verve so great. In a lot of ways he reminds me of Marvin Gaye - the up and down personality, the music is power philosophy, etc.

it's an oasis forum. of course a landslide win by liam was bound to happen. though, when you're being honst, you have to admit that his voice has been fucked for almost 15 years now, wheras with ashcroft you sometimes cannot tell if it's live or the album version.
