Michael Jackson at #34, Bono and The Edge at #35, David Bowie at #39, Elton John and Bernie Taupin at #48, George Harrison at #65, Morrissey and Marr at #67, Radiohead at #73, R.E.M. at #85, Eminem at #91, and The Bee Gees at #95. All of those writers deserve to be higher on the list, in some sort of way, for sure.
People like Taylor Swift, Kris Kristofferson, and R. Kelly are CERTAINLY not better songwriters than Noel at all. You could just as well replace those three I mentioned with Noel, Dave Grohl, and the fucking combo of David Gilmour and Roger Waters. That's a serious travesty to omit that combo.

Sorry, but I am not gonna take seriously a list where is Taylor Swift mentioned at all. I really don't want to live in a world where Taylor Swift makes it and Noel Gallagher don't.

American magazine exaggerates the ability of American songwriters? Where've I heard that one before?
Yes, Noel's omission is farcical to say the least, but personally, I'm still trying to get over the fact that Wacko Jacko is five places higher than David f****n' Bowie! Utterly mind-boggling.

Oh, and RE the use of that most dreaded of words, "bae"... I know you said it jokingly, but it's a slippery slope...

What a shitlist. Where are Waters and Gilmour? What the fuck are Eminem, R. Kelly and Taylor Swift doing on this list? Why are most good song writers ranked so low?
At least they got the top 3 right.
Edit: Why the fuck are U2 higher than David Bowie and George Harrison, and higher on the list than most good songwriters anyway?

Another appalling Rolling Stones list. The Gilmour/Waters omital is horrific as is Led Zeppelin's. But with no Noely G, no Damon Albarn, no Black Francis, no Jack White, no Richard D James... Terrible.

To be fair, I do think Eminem deserves a place but the rest is shit of course.

These kinda lists are made all the time, and they mix them up, if anything, not to continuosly repeat themselves.
Not to mention, Noël's not relevant and Kanyé and Taylor Swift are relevant and attract more readers....
And, also, not to also mention, Taylor Swift's probably completely shaved, which is really important.
God bless.

Personally, I wouldn't pay attention to any lists that Rolling Stone puts out, especially given its huge American bias.

I mean Madonna,Taylor Swift,R.Kelly,Jay Z,even Billie Joe Armstrong?! People may hate the living hell out of Green Day, but their early days saw huge success due to writing pop punk perfection that the American teen audience ate up, and certainly showed in their sales. Same for Madonna with writing hugely successful pop tunes. Taylor Swift, in the same boat. Not everyone has to like their music, but as for their designated genre, they have released hit after hit and garnered millions of fans in the process.

Perfection in terms of garnering alot of interest, doesn't necessarily mean personal preference is positive for it as well. I can't stand Taylor Swift's 2009-2010 country pop hits but in that category many other people think otherwise.

I like Green Day and I think they wrote two classic records, but does Billie Joe deserve his place in this list more than the likes of Noel,Gilmour/Waters,Led Zeppelin,Weller etc.?

I can't stand Taylor Swift's 2009-2010 country pop hits but in that category many other people think otherwise. I didn't mean the perfection bit. Being perfect at any one thing is to be commended, but as praise goes, it rings a little hollow when that thing is pop punk; the most utterly subpar genre of music I've yet to hear (although I do think, in most cases, rap is a con, and the artist involved are not the geniuses the music press make them out to be) Maybe this is just an ugly prejudice rearing its head, but I'm also inclined to think very little of the tastes of American teens. Experience has taught me as much, and as we know, Americans want "grungy people stabbing themselves in the head on stage."
