Listening to the album a lot, I have to say the first five tracks are all pretty solid - with A Head Full of Dreams, Birds and Adventure of a Lifetime all being good. But from then to Up&Up, it's absolutely diabolical.
A Head Full of Dreams - 8/10 Birds - 7/10 Hymn for the Weekend - 6.5/10 Everglow - 6.5/10 Adventure of a Lifetime - 7.5/10 ------------------------------------------ Fun - 5.5/10 Kaleidoscope - 5/10 Army of One - 6/10 X Marks the Spot - 5/10 Amazing Day - 5.5/10 Colour Spectrum - 5/10 ------------------------------------------ Up&Up - 8/10
That second section is the worst run of songs in their career, by a long shot. Even the first looks bad when you compare it to the opening five of AROBTTH:
1. Politik - 10/10 2. In My Place - 8/10 3. God Put a Smile Upon Your Face - 8/10 4. The Scientist - 10/10 5. Clocks - 10/10
The album has grown on me, but it's still pretty damn bad.

Don't really get the hate tbh, it's much better than bland dross like "Fun" or "Amazing Day" IMO.

Those are bad too Hymn For The Weekend is just generic pop,it's Coldplay ft. Beyoncè but it sounds more Beyoncè ft. Coldplay,d'you know what I mean?

Hahahahaahahahhahaha, Coldplay only got to #2 in the UK and USA. They designed this album to be a pop hit machine. Hahahahahahahahahaha.

I get what you mean, and it's definitely generic pop - but at least it is what it wants to be. Those others try to be emotional and moving and really, really, really aren't. Hymn For the Weekend wants to be a catchy dance track and, for better and for worse, it is. It's not Clocks or anything but it's solid IMO. About the #2 thing, I'm glad they didn't get number one but I wish it wasn't because of Adele. Let's face it, if Coldplay can't top her, no one can. Unfortunately, Chris will know this and will not take the streak-breaker as the indicication of shit it almost certainly is. If they didn't top the charts because of Kendrick Lamar or something, they might take it more seriously. This is all just wishful thinking though, because the fact is Coldplay aren't going to be making music with any depth again for a LONG time, if ever. What's annoying is that when you say you like Coldplay, people will be thinking "A Sky Full of Stars / Amazing Day" more often than "The Scientist / Clocks", and you will be met with the sneering dismissal the former deserves.

Another thing about that is, Oasis's record of being the only band in UK chart history to have their first 7 albums debut at #1 stands. 25 and A Head Full of Dreams came close to breaking records set by Oasis for Adele (fastest-selling album in the UK over the course of a week) and Coldplay (the aforementioned record), but it can't quite be toppled.

And the irrelevant and unsuccessful Noel Gallagher has 9 out of 9 as a songwriter

I listened to the album again after about a week, and it actually gets worse.
Please just crash and burn from the charts. That will teach them to make such superficial music about their oh so great and wealthy materialistic lifestyles. The fact Chris Martin even thinks I give a fuck about his lifestyle and relationships are insulting to everyone's intelligence (and your very public 'peaceful' departure from your wife is cringeworthy - pass me the fucking sick bucket please), apart from the sad idiots who buy into this. You live in LA - the most garish, vain and vulgar place on the face of the earth, and this is pretty much the insipid putrid lifestyle that inspired this album.
Fuck you Coldplay, I'm done.

Dunno the figures for the UK, but it entered the US charts with 170,000 fewer sold than Ghost Stories. Considering this was meant to be the blockbuster effort compared to the subdued Ghost Stories which didn't see much promotion, then they have to be disappointed with it no?

I think a lot of USA fans are just tired of Coldplay and their act. By act I mean what they've been doing since around 2010. Boiling everything down to be as safe as possible to as many people as possible. It can be very harmful when you fall into that trap of wanting to be liked by everyone. That will never happen for anyone.

If Coldplay had made this record and dropped the hip hop beats and added more guitars, how many points might you rate it?

If Coldplay had made this record and dropped the hip hop beats and added more guitars, how many points might you rate it? They'd have to DUMP a lot of songs as well. - Hymn For The Weekend - Fun - X Marks The Spot - Army of One - Kaleidoscope That's half the album right there and I'm being very generous leaving BOTH Everglow and Amazing Day around.

The album SHOULD have been based around these 3 songs.
- A Head Full of Dreams - Adventures of a Lifetime - Up&Up
That was the progressing theme and narrative of the record. From point "A" to "B" and finally "C". After those tunes, Birds is the next big winner for me. Unfortunately not much else of value shines brightly for me. This album tries to be too cute, too friendly, too straight.

To be honest, they bore me to a large extent as well now and I don't have much want to listen to them. But yeah, build you're album around the strongest songs you have. I'm not sure this album is really built around anything!

Yeah, the production feels subpar; like how the piano in Up&Up is buried in the mix instead of carrying the track initially like it does in the live version.
