This is getting perilously close to becoming another Sardy thread Well he has certainly left his mark on Oasis and Noel Gallagher. He's like George Martin......................................................except shitty. * I will note that Dave Sardy did produce one of my favorite indie anthems of all-time.

Perhaps we could all make it into a Liam vs Noel thread?
I think we need more of those

I like the demo of Record Machine and the released version of Stop The Clocks. They have a nice ethereal and majestic quality to them. In 94/95 when I first heard Live Forever and Wonderwall I thought they were awful and I still do. Blasphemy, right? Oh well, I'm not gonna claim I'm correct. One man's Holy Grail is another man's toilet paper.

Can we make this a play-penned thread in some way, please?

Hmm, I happen to like all of the songs the OP wrote about. Guess that means I'm overly attached. But I probably wouldn't like RM or STC if they had been hyped for almost a decade and I had heard the DBTT season versions first. Instead I heard them first when I listened to HFB for the first time, and thought they were good songs! I also think that the album versions sound better than the session versions, if only because they're more polished! (Though I will say that I am very bitter about how Sardy hid the guitar solo of RM behind the strings, seriously, wtf!!)

Can we make this a play-penned thread in some way, please? I second this. It's quite clear that the OP is trolling. I mean, look at his choice of words and the fact that he targets only Noel songs!

Uhm yes, but when it finally came out everyone was disappointed, so it can't be overrated. How can a song be overrated before anyone has even heard it? That makes no sense. Now if it had come out and people would have gone nuts for it, THEN it would be overrated Ummmmmmm. No. Because Noel said it was the big thing. Making it highly overrated ......and if he never would have said a word and just released it .......people would say it's a pretty good tune. Noel overrated it. As did most of this forum pre release .... The title of thread is FANS overrating...so it matters not what Noel said

I don't think many High Flying Birds songs are overrated by fans. Maybe Lock All The Doors.

you're wrong, it's pretty awesome (if not played on an acoustic with a capo on the 4th fret).

I'm not sure what bold fonts have to do with anything, but have you read what you've said in your original post? Phrases such as "boring as a donkey's arse", "boring and fluffy and piss warm", and "boring anthem for your grandmother's birthday party" are things trolls say to get reactions out of people. And look at the title of the thread. Calling fans "overly attached" is far from the worst insult I've heard on here, but it still sounds like you're trying to inflame. But don't get me wrong, I respect your opinions just as I do everyone else's, just if you don't like a song, express it in a way that doesn't look like you're trolling. And I wouldn't call Little by Little overrated. I don't mind it, but there are a lot of members here that have a strong hatred for it!

everybody's on the run: i don't know what all the fuss about that song is about. it was ok in the beginning, but it got pretty boring very quickly. it's too long, repeats itself too often. riverman: basically the same what's wrong with eotr is wrong with riverman. interesting after a few listens, but been boring the shit out of me ever since. the dying of the light: it's pretty okay-ish and i'm ok with hearing it every once in a while, but fuck me, it must be on of the most predictable songs noel has ever written. if one would ask me what your noel-by-numbers-capoed-mid-tempo-song sounds like, i would advise that person to listen to tdotl. record machine & stop the clocks: does anyone actually rate them? destroyed by production and as boring as a donkey's arse. all acoustic capoed live renditions of epic oasis songs: i'm thinking of champagne supernova, don't look back in anger and supersonic. especially champagne supernova. i truly hate it. so boring and fluffy and piss warm. it's beyond me how noel could butcher his own masterpiece to such a piece of boring anthem for your grandmother's birthday party. I must say - this post makes me want lop out my dick, slap it on your forehead and leave you with a mushroom tattoo. It sounds like the kind of reasoning Liam would use to get a genius tune like 'Let's All Make Believe' bumped off an album in favour of 'I Can See A Liar' because it's not rocky enough.

Seems like a bit of a daft thread but I'll try and be serious here. Overly attached fans, bit harsh that!
I'm just going to say The Roller. It's the least shit of all the songs on that album, it is not a good song in my opinion.

The Ballad of mighty I and What a life are good songs but over-rated by fans. But Noel is God and a religion so it's all about faith.

I agree with the 3rd and 5th choices. I still really like the demo's of RM and STC but they were murdered on record. And yeah, Little By Little is total shite.

yeah, i actually believe that the demos of stc and record machine are pretty listenable. they have that sotsog-demo-feeling to them. dave sardy totally butchered that with his production. i only can assume that he (sardy i mean) must have something hidden in his closet that would totally expose noel, that he (again sardy) would get away with such bullshit(my guess would be a gay sex video of noel doing bono and weller with gem and alan mcgee watching and touching each other or something to that extend).

Overrated songs, hmm....tough yin. I disagree with almost everything the OP mentioned, especially the acoustic live versions (Champagne Supernova has been glorious this tour) I'd agree with what Mean Mrs. Mustard said about RM and STC - they can't really be overrated since they aren't that loved (although I like the NGHFB version of RM) The only ones I could think of are Wonderwall - Only slightly, I love the song just not as much as others, one of the weakest on WTSMG for me D'You Know What I Mean? - Don't get me wrong, I adore this song, but many people claim this is the best song on BHN? No chance (although the OOPS thing showed some incredible stuff) Roll With It - Again, bottom 2 on WTSMG for me, not a patch on Some Might Say etc While The Song Remains The Same - Everything is great about this song except the walloping brass instruments (whatever they are) in the background. Ruins the vibe for me. Otherwise great! Most of BE - Some overly-Liam fans seem to think this album is pure genius. Yeah its better that DGSS, but certainly not a patch on either of Noels releases or Oasis's (for me anyway, just don't see it) It has great production but a poor recording voice, Liam sounded 10x better on DGSS (but it again lacked the songs) Other than these, I agree with most peoples opinions on most of the stuff This is all IMHO of course, fellow humans, and I'd like to point out I have no bias for either Gallaghers. Just using my ears!

Riverman is overated in my opinion. Not even close to the quality of EOTR as far as I'm concerned. I'm still suprised it was picked as a single.
