Best acts from 2010 - 2015 Beach House Kendrick Lamar Tame Impala Kanye WestEach have released two bonafide great records in 5 years, with one being a classic (Teen Dream, Good Kid Madd City, Lonerism, and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy). With Beach House, maybe making a third - I haven't listened to the Depression Cherry leak yet. So it might be Beach House, although they haven't been artistically as dangerous as Kanye and Kendrick, or even Kevin Parker. Honorable mentions - Smith Westerns, Spoon, Cut Copy, Arctic Monkeys, Arcade Fire, Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, Frank Ocean. Kanye West?...

I'm struggling to think of bands who arrived during that period, so I'd probably have to agree with mimmihopps. In addition to this, somewhat of a side project from some of the members - Orkney: Symphony of the Magnetic North - is a beautiful album. If any of you like your music melodic, you will love this from last year's Erland & The Carnival release.

Honestly, I should write a long form post or something explaining why Kanye is great, but considering this is Oasis forum and that Kanye is a bonafide superstar makes it not really worth my while, or anyone's else's, I'm sure. Plus people take his media persona bs a little too much to heart. Pertaining to this thread, it is pretty safe to say that Kanye is a generational defining artist especially within rap/hip hop. His last two are outstanding. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is maximalist masterpiece. A rare big budget blockbuster of a record that ending up being perhaps Kanye's greatest work and artistic statement. Yeezus, on the hand is a fast, fierce, raw and minimalistic. Sure, groups like Death Grips did this sound earlier, but Kanye refines it.

Listening to the entire album feels like listening to a story, read by a story teller with your eyes closed.

I might be wrong but I think it was more questioning the fact that Kayne's been releasing music for 12 years or so and this thread is about artists who have only been releasing music in the past 5 years rather than his credentials

Oh then I misunderstood this questions completely. I just named top five artists in general, not new acts of the past five years. I guess Kendrick is new enough to fit into the five year window. If we are doing best five new acts, here we go: Alvvays Janelle Monae - can't say this enough - deserves to be a superstar. what a creative musical imagination she has Best Coast Cults Jagwar ma Lady Toro y Moi TOPS Frank Ocean Jessie Ware

Their first album Crazy For You, is one of my favorite records of all time, I love it way more than I should, to be honest. It has been a summertime soundtrack for the past five years. That album is a lot of fun and has a lot of charm to it. its the sound of a 23 year old slacker, pot head girl singing about boys and her cat. it isn't anything revolutionary, but I'll be damned if you can find better pop songs than Crazy for You, Boyfriend, Our Deal, or When The Sun Don't Shine. It's half an hour and has 13 songs, none of them bad in my opinion. There next two album releases lack the charm that made them special, but The Only Place and California Nights both offer slightly new takes on their sound. The Only Place has a country tinge to it and a couple great ballads on it, and California Nights sounds like it was made in the early 90's with influences like MBV and Hole.

The cathedral they are playing in at 1.00 is just a short 3 minute walk from my home.

I expected a little more love for the Vaccines. I'm finally starting to get into them, I really loved their 'Melody Calling' EP The Vaccines - I liked their first album but I don't listen to it anymore, the second didn't seem great and I didn't like the first single off the third album at all. I like Temples, Peace, Tame Impala and Royal Blood. I need to checkout Catfish and the Bottlemen.
