The thread about tracks Noel took inspiration from reminded me of something I've wanted to know for years.
Does anybody know where the loop at the start of Gas Panic comes from? I'm particularly interested on whether it's sampled from another track. I don't have the physical album with me but I'm pretty sure there are no credits regarding that on the booklet (please correct me if I'm wrong). Or it could just be a loop that Noel and/or Spike created.
The reason I'm asking this is that around June 2000 (long time ago, yep) I saw some female singer on tv performing a song that began with exactly the same loop. Given the date, I just assumed they had sampled it off the Oasis track, but they might have taken it from the same source.

I have no idea, can't find anything about it either. Can you remember the singer and the show though?

It's not mentioned in the album's sleeve notes, unlike the samples on Fuckin in the Bushes... so perhaps it was a loop from a sample library. As far as I can tell those aren't usually credited. If I remember rightly, there's also some vinyl crackle in there too, giving the sense of it being sampled from an old LP. Which in turn reminds me of the atmospheric ambient sounds on the intro of Massive Attack - Teardrop, also mixed by Mark "Spike" Stent. Sound on Sound interview with Spike Stent. www.soundonsound.com/sos/jan99/articles/spike366.htm

The demo of Gas Panic! was done by Noel in his bedroom with a drum machine. As the demo already uses the sample, I'd assume it's just that drum machine.

It would be cool to find out where it comes from, but probably none of us here have that level of expertise. The interview looks really interesting.

I would be really surprised if Noel recorded that in his bedroom. It sounds like studio quality and there are many elements that made it to the released version. Maybe there was another, earlier demo?

I remember seeing the pop song here as well. Can't remember the name though. Wasn't it released a bit earlier than SOTSOG, though?

That's a similar intro, but it's not the same loop, is it? Great song, by the way.

It could be, all I know is I heard it after SOTSOG cause I wouldn't have made the connection otherwise. Which country did you hear it in? I heard it in Spain but the tune definitely wasn't in Spanish (can't remember if it was in English, though).

Oh man, this brings back fond memories of going to Barnes and Noble in the late 90s, reading the British music magazines about how Noel got into the Beta Band and their influences. That didn't really transpire outside a few moments on SOTSOG.

A quick search on the forum brought me to this: This track is, however, from 2003 according to Wikipedia, and definitely not the one I remember.

I might've remembered wrong. I just found this, but Noel used the drum intro on Go Let It Out, not Gas Panic.

The drums on Go Let it Out seem to be part of a sample chain, where the original source that Oasis sampled from was Johnny Jenkins' cover of Walk on Gilded Splinters. I put together a brief YouTube vid showing this (extra info available by selecting subtitles).

That's a similar intro, but it's not the same loop, is it? Great song, by the way. Noel based 'Go Let It Out' on the melody from 'Dry The Rain' (as you can clearly tell). The drum loop from 'Go Let It Out' is actually a sample from Johnny Jenkins' cover of 'I Walk On Gilded Splinters'. The 'Gas Panic!' Noel demo was supposedly (at least) part-recorded in his home studio at Supernova Heights.

This song was released in 1997, but I think it is not original drum loop.
