I'll admit im not a huge fan of his solo work but songs like:
-The right stuff -The death of you and me -If I had a gun (demo) -Fallen angel broken arrow (demo)
They're pure genius imo..it's a pity he doesn't have more of the same as I was pretty disappointed with his new album.
Again this is my opinion but it reminds me of some of his Oasis albums, brilliant at his best but pretty poor when not on form

I always love how people think their opinion deserves a complete thread, while the topic has been discussed in various other threads.

All the songs you mentioned are not only great songs but beautifully recorded as well. The two demos are both superior to the album versions and it's a shame that a lot of the beauty seems to have been squeezed out of them on the record.

I disagree (but I agree with Mean Mrs. Mustard above). In terms of songwriting both the HFB albums are the best thing released by any of the Gallaghers since SOTSOG in 2000, in my opinion. They're not flawless (especially NGHFB), but they're definitely very far from being poor.

Tbh I just think its a shame he couldn't maintain The Right Stuff's quality, that song is brilliant...easily one of his BEST including his Oasis work.
I'd include The Right Stuff and The Death of You and Me among his top 20 of all time..easily. I'd love to hear him singing it live though

I agree with the If I Had a Gun demo being better than the album version, but the album version of Broken Arrow has something to it that the demo just doesn't get. It's almost like the overproduction fits the song, even though it seems like a simple song on paper.

I like the demo version and the studio version of Broken Arrow.
But sadly I've never got a taste for any full version of If I Had A Gun, apart from that soundcheck version from early 2009. That first version we heard was looser, more elegant, a bit slower and sang with what seemed genuine emotion, with the reverb and echo giving it an overall haunted feel. It could - and should - have been a sighful ballad. Ideally then, it would have been better if he had taken the spirit from this one and maybe embellished it a bit more, or recorded a soundcheck straight away with lo-fi recording, and just released it ala Bruce Springsteen and Nebraska.
After that every other version seemed stilted, rigid, and plodding. There's been no full version that has ever satisfied me.

Might have to listen again, but from what I can remember, all the HFB demoes were crap. (In my humble opinion of course...)

Everybody on The Run If I Had A Gun Broken Arrow I'd pick you everytime Are all well worth going back to Dunno, I heard the If I Had A Gun demo the other day and disliked it immensely. Can't stand I'd Pick You Everytime, and Broken Arrow is pretty much perfect as it is on the record for me, so I'm not sure about a stripped down version. May give Everybody's On The Run a go though, hated it on HFB

The demos in question were actually officially released as part of a DVD so it's understandable to be disappointed if you've paid money for them and don't like them.
Personally, I'm a big fan of the High Flying Birds demos.

Yes, yes I do have serious opinions about demos. My favourite Oasis related demo is probably Stop Crying Your Heart Out. My least favourite is probably The Death Of You And Me.

Don't forget the Where Did it All Go Wrong? demo. That captures the purely dark tone of the song perfectly.

I am seriously in awe of The Right Stuff..what a masterpiece..sorry I keep going on about it but its such a great song..which makes me even more disappointed with the rest of the album.
As for the death of you and me demo, I love the album version but the demo is pretty weak imo
