I don't mean to sound negative but I read the news story about how they had written 60 songs for DBTT and out of the ones they had left 7 or 8 are worthy of going on the next album. Ummmm.. If they were that good why didn't they go on DBTT?
I was really encouraged when Noel said the next album was going to be more ambitious. What's happened to all that when now he's talking about a new album of cast offs from a lack lustre album(sorry its not MG or DM).

Quite a few classics are ones that had been held back for various reasons (couldn't get them to sound right, couldn't afford to record them properly etc) though.
Have faith.

all those b-sides are 'cast offs'..
Master Plan, Acquiese, Lets All Make Believe, Stay Young, Talk Tonight....etc
so i would be careful if i were you, could still be a mega album

Don't Believe The Truth was fuckin' mega, I don't know what you're on. DBTT, or any Oasis album for that matter, shouldn't try to be a DM or Morning Glory again. Those albums weren't just music, they're engraved in culture and the minds of millions of young musicians. I have faith in Noel and the lads, they never let me down before.

I have to say DBTT was a very strong record and their best since MG. Oasis sounded a bit more focused and the songs were really good. I hope the next record has that same energy. But Oasis are a band that like to stick to what they like so I don't expect a huge change in regards to the sound but I hope to continue to hear strong songs because as noel has admitted to at times he can be lazy.

Look there is no bigger oasis fan than me. I saw Noel and Gem last December, only 4 rows back, in the centre with no one in the seat in front of me for most of the show at the Enmore and it was probably the best concert bar none Iv'e ever been to. Lsten up was just ahhh. ( I won tickets )
I was closer than this guy who took this
DBTT was good, better than HC, or SOTSOG but for me it was still behind the first three and definetly a sign that if they put the EFFORT in the next one could be a classic. I really hope I am wrong and it is a classic BUT it was so good to hear Noel talk about a big ambitious record rather than a folksy small time one and then I read that he doesn't need to write any new songs and will take the rest of the year off !!. Yes he need a life but it smacks that he can't be arsed anymore and is content to put out an album which will (guaranteed) sell millions and make him a few more (well millions) quid.
My wife is a huge Simply Red fan (they were brilliant, Iv'e heard them enough!)and she buys every album as soon as it comes out but the last say four albums have been so so (even she thinks so) and he's obviouly just doing it to make money to pay for his Italian vine yards. I suppose you can't blame him but it sort of waters down the legend don't you think?
If their hearts are really in it I would love them to make a great oasis album but if it isn't I would rather he/they wait until they can amaze us again.

Having listened to DBTT again I was very hard on it and it is good whichever way you look at it. Good songs with good melodies. My only critisism is that it isn't BIG enough, those songs deserved bigger production so they would suit a stadium rather than a small theatre.
Sorry to be negative but I know this band can be more ambitious and blow the world away with their next cd.
I have faith it will be a classic we all know they can deliver.

True, DBTT was much more laid back, very 60s pop.
I'd say Lyla is a stadium stomper though.

Well if you remember, Heathen Chemistry had a lot of leftovers from the SOTSOG sessions (Force of Nature, Songbird, Little By LIttle, etc). 94-95 leftovers are different from 2000s leftovers... I'd just say put the album out with whatever you've got and then get crackin on new material that we can wait on.... Also, a la "Skin and Bones' by the Foo Fighters, Noel needs to make an official release of this acoustic live material...

Yes I did say Simply Red were brilliant many many years ago. Picture Book is a classic, my wife has everything they have ever done. Mick Hucknall was one of a select group of people to see The Sex Pistols outside London . I was just trying to say that Simply Red WERE good but are still producing albums today which pale into significance when compared with their earlier stuff. I hope oasis don't go this route as I would rather wait for quality rather than mediocre quantity. This copied form a wikipedia entry I just found en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_PistolsTheir live performances were also influential. A significant show occurred early in their career on June 4, 1976, when they performed to a crowd of just 42 people at the Lesser Free Trade Hall in Manchester, England. It was to become one of the most important and mythologized events in rock history.[76] Among the audience were many who would later form bands or otherwise popularise the embryonic punk movement, including the Buzzcocks (who had organised the gig), Anthony H. Wilson (founder of Factory Records), Bernard Sumner, Ian Curtis and Peter Hook (all later of Joy Division), Adam Ant, Morrissey (later of The Smiths), and Mick Hucknall (later of Simply Red).[77][78]

Good to see that Noel isn't planning a solo album soonish and that oasis are spending the summer writing songs! (well according to the news from oasisnet)
We need a quality oasis album not one just put out to please us die hards and no one else. I would rather no oasis album than a half arsed one.

just cos songs werent on dbtt doesnt mean there no good ,the albums have to blend an be listenable .its like puttin love like a bomb followed by headshrinker it just woudnt work .so they put songs that fit,.dbtt was a very different album for oasis ,but i personally prefered hc n sotsog as it had more better songs on em.liams songs i think let down dbtt a liitle .they were good but i prefered his last batch. for the next album i feel we could hear something big ,a few rockier ones but the rest massive rock ballad type songs with strings an choirs as noel has said as i feel thats what he preefers .i get the feelin he wasnt terribly happy with the dbtt for reason

Lets hope so. I really hope this next album is: Ambitious, has Massive Stadium Filling Production (please no more acoustic intimate theatre type stuff!!) has classic songs we all know they can deliver Produced by Owen Morris (but I think Noels and his ego can't fit in the same county)
Since BHN none of the albums have sounded BIG. I loved the Owen Morris wall of sound.
I have faith it will be good.

with all due respect man, i think you're crazy if you dont think that between the FOUR of these guys they wont come up with something at lease as solid as DBTT. to be honest, i would be shocked and disappointed if it was a shade behind DBTT. you know noels good for at least 5-6, gem and andy could both bring a pair to the table worthy of making the album, and i'm sure liam will have a songbird III and at least something else. not to mention we'll be looking at a solid 3 year hiatus by the time it gets recorded...thats just too much time for a clan of vets to put out a pile of shit. they'll be fine.
