Both varying degrees of shite in my opinion, but I loathe the saccharine lyrics and heavy handed production (nice one again Dave!) of If I Had A Gun. Girl With X-Ray Eyes for me.

If I Had a Brickwall: Dave Sardy Ultimate Loud Friggin Drum Mix. If I Had a Gun as a song because of the demo. Beautiful. Lyrics need more work though. So does X-Ray Eyes. 'X-Ray' is ok but it sounds like Noel wants to be David Bowie. Plus too much Masterplan in it as well.

It's a quite unpopular opinion on here but I really like X-Ray Eyes
Yeah,If I Had A Gun is kinda ruined by the shitty production, but it's still a great song with great lyrics and melody, so IIHAG for me

I like X-Ray Eyes, I like the Bowie sound and the guitar solo, but the pearls and swine bit really bothers me.
I don't like the production of If I Had A Gun, but I've really rediscovered it lately and have been listening to it a lot. It's a great song and I'm going with this one.

Both tracks are flawed in my opinion.
I've never been a fan of X-Ray Eyes and I think that it's the weakest song on Chasing Yesterday. It's not a bad song per se, but I can't bring myself to enjoy it. It's got a couple of cringeworthy lyrics but my problem with it is its overall sound.
And IIHAG, here we are. It probably is the worst example of Sardy's production: actually there are a lot of things going on in the background but you can't hear ANY of them. The bass and the drums are melted together, the piano is buried somewhere, and the guitars...? You can hardly hear them in all that huge mess. As I've said many times before, it's like listening to a song through the kitchen sink.
Overall I think IIHAG is the better song: the demo is great, it works great in acoustic but the full band live performance bores me a little. And turn down those fucking drums!!

If I Had A Gun - merely because it is a better song, but as everyone says, massacred by the awful production. No version ever comes close to that sketchy one from the soundcheck way back in 2009. Noel should have done an REM and recorded his soundcheck and build it from there in the studio to finish (like New Adventures in Hi-Fi)
Not a fan of X Ray Eyes at all - for me I personally find it derivative in the extreme, with clunky lyrics and sonically poor with really really dull instrumentation.

If I Had A Gun alway sounded boring and ordinary to me. I much prefer the AA version.

I'm gonna hand it to If I Had A Gun as there is a good song buried in there somewhere. Not to knock ...X-Ray Eyes however, as I reckon there's one in there too. It's called...

10 votes för W-Ray Eyes. Really?
If I Had a Gun, of course. One of Noel's best. Ever.
