Whats your opinion on the Oasis lineup over the years? would you trade the current members for origonals such as bonehead?

Bonehead and Guigs were great dont get me wrong... they really fit the mold of oasis in the early days... working class lads from manchester... but the oasis sound had to improve as the band become larger and larger... i dont think that anyone on this board or in the oasis camp would dare say that bonehead is a better guitarist or brings more to the band (on stage or in studio) than Gem does... Gem is brilliant. Andy handles the bass way better than Guigs and pitches in with the occasional tune so thats good stuff..(i just wish he seemed happier in the band). As far the the drumkit goes... well, McCarrol was shitty, sorry. I think i may have preferred Alan's drumming to that of Zak's, but Starkey is starting to grow on me... let him drum on the next album and i'm sure he'll make most of us forget about Alan.

I like how the timeline of the band can be split into two sections, because of the change in band members. As well as adding to the technical side of things, Gem and Andy also gave the band a more sort of mature presence, if you see what I mean, in the way of music and appearance on stage - before their arrival, it was all parkers and daft hats. Nowt wrong with that of course.
I've always thought Andy's looked happy in the band, people have only just started saying he looks unhappy since they played at the Brits - he's probably just going through a hard time, don't you think?

Gem, Andy, Noel, Zak the Tank, Ashcroft. Can't stand Liam. Would much prefer Ashcroft. Way more talented, can write a tune and a half, can sing, great frontman, knows music.

I think Gem and Andy have earned their place in Oasis. They're cool, they write good tunes, are far better musicians than guigs and bonehead and have been in Oasis for a very long time.
When I got into Oasis there was no bonehead or guigs, than that was a long time ago.

Gem and Andy have definitely earnt their place in the band and I wouldn't want to lose either of them.
I miss Whitey. Not to denegrate Zak, but he was a constant for a lot of years and I think the way he went was a real shame. I'd have him back in a second.

as much as i love Guigs and Bonehead, Gem and Andy are so talented.. i used to have people who don't like Oasis turn around and say to me that the other members are crap musicians... nobody can say that about Gem and Andy

First of all, cheers for the response. After reading your opinions I'd say its time to air mine lol. Call it sentimental but when oasis first made it big back when I was at school Guiggs and Bonehead were part of the band. Although pretty much anything they produce is great I cant help but think this was the lineup that brought us the most memorable era. Not that I am saying B/head and Guiggs actually had direct influence on the end product of each hit but as a collective they brought an atmosphere to the band that created those hits.
To maybe push on the 'talent' debate. Could you not put it down to the fact that if they had of stayed on with the band, the years that have passed would have seen the development in their playing potential to match that of the current guys? After all an instrument is a skill that must be practised.

of course people like bonehead, whitey and guigsy, not for musical reasons for for nostalgia's sake. they were the members of the band in its heyday and height of its popularity.
but i think that the lineup with gem, andy and zak is the best yet. they have the best SOUND, and that's what matters hen it comes to music. to me at least

After all an instrument is a skill that must be practised. No, can't say I agree there. Guigsy's bass playing was rudimentary at best, so he may well have progressed a bit, but I think even now the bass solo to My Generation would be a bit beyond him. As for Bonehad, he basically just played barre chords. If he was in the band today that's still what he'd be doing, and Noel would still have to be doing all the soloing. Having Gem in the band, who is able to not only spice up the rhythm but take solos, eases the pressure on Noel and allows him to perform better vocally. So while I think they may have progessed a bit (as in gotten slightly better) there is no way they would match the musicianship of Gem or Andy. Nevermind write any great tunes (or indeed any tunes).

For me, these guys wil always be Oasis. a good noel song is better than anything from liam, gem or andy, and in the early discs he was the absolute chief

hmm, i supose everyones points are valid due to the fact the answer to the question is probably personal prefference. I supose the new guys brought a different sound to oasis which then asks the question, do you prefer the new tracks over the earlier albums? The trouble with oasis is they have been so good that it leaves expectations very high of everything else they go on to do! Its a shame theres no one anywhere near like them today. A few bands have thrown out some great tunes but the difference being will you be pulling out your ipod in 15yrs time to listen to them?! I feel today the media present a group/artist, tell you how great they are and how you will like them!

i myself like the current lineup they all have the image of a classic rock'n'roll band and they don't care who says what about their albums, actions, and lifestyle. all they want to do is make/play music they love and i think it works for them

one thing is for sure, bonehead or guisgy couldn't write something as awesome as "Turn Up The Sun" or "Hung In A Bad Place"

For me Oasis will always be Noel, Liam, Guigs, Bonehead and Alan. But I certainly don't have a problem with the current lineup. In many aspects they're a lot tighter than the previous lineup and this current lineup is on the verge of being together longer than the Oasis lineup of the Morning Glory/Be Here Now era.
