Is the correct answer. I'd give my left arm to be able to play like him! The intro from "Feeling", that guitar riff!

Is John Squire really underrated? Being a cultural phenomenon like The Stone Roses were - and given the fandom of them on this site - I thought he was given just praise. I've always been a big fan of Peter Buck from REM. Not sure if he's underrated but he's a versatile player for REM and his sound is as crucial to them as Johnny Marr was to The Smiths. John Squire kinda overdid it with Second Coming - still, no doubt that he's a brillant guitarist. "Tears" alone (both the acoustic and the electric part, especially the solo) should prove that point. Completely agree with Peter Buck, his sound especially in the early R.E.M. years is stunning.

Dunno if Neil Young's underrated, but I know a lot of people don't think much of his playing, he has a distinctive style and is my all time favourite guitar player. I hear a big influence on songs like Slide away and Shout It Out loud
Lou Reed's an underrated player, he mainly played rhythm but his solos were insane.
Nick Drake is one of my favourite acoustic guitarists, his playing is astoundingly precise, and his songs sound simple but are really complex

Strange as it may sound. Bruce Springsteen. What broke him out of the asbury park , jersey shore bar band years was that he was the fastest and best guitarist on the shore which boasted many top guitarists back then

Angus Young. AC/DC may be extremely popular and their fans say he's the main man but critics still claim his guitar playing is too simple despite simplicity not being a reason for calling an artist good or bad. Look at Noel (who's also really underrated by the way).

Neil Young - Love his fractured style of playing. you immediately know whose playing. Lou Reed - could play a surprising number of styles, while maintaining his own unique character. hard to balance those two. Nick McCabe - he's just super tasteful. love the flourishes on slide away during the second verse, and already there is simply stunning. Can roar but can also be slick. Max Kakacek - Just listen to Dye It Blonde by the Smith Westerns, dude is one of the best we've got right now in glam rock. just super melodic and super fun. Alex Scally - his nimble riffs really add a lot to the aura and base of Beach House's music. Zebra is wonderful, Gila is haunting, Noway is majestic. Love how he bends his guitar on the latter and on Silver Soul. Stephen Malkmus - don't know if he's properly rated or not because I mean he did influence Coxen and stuff. Just love his slacker riffs. Its like stoner jazz mixed with a bit of Television. Tom Verlaine & Richard Lloyd - speaking of television just listen to Marquee Moon. Might be the best guitar duo of all time and they don't get the credit. Jeff Tweedy - he's playing on Wilco's A Ghost Is Born is criminally underrated. The end of At Least That's What You Said is one of my favorite solo's ever.

Will Sergeant from Echo & The Bunnymen, the best "fill the holes" type of guitarrist.

Mark Knopfler. IMO, the best guitarist, and not talked about enough, even if he is pretty respected. Not one of my favorite songs, but the tone and feeling in the solo is perfect...all finger picking too

I don't even have to press play to just know that's Sultans Of Swing.

I don't even have to press play to just know that's Sultans Of Swing. There you go. A much better song. I just figured most people appreciate faster solos over a longer slower moodier one. My point still stands...
