Are we as Oasis fans too harsh when it comes to this album?
recently its begun to grow on me
THT, SCYHO, SB, LBL, SIL, BOADC are all solid to mega tunes.
With this being said, HC still ranks below BHN and is my 5th fav album for me
so, the question becomes: what makes BHN more special and superior to HC? its something that i cant explain

Be Here Now has the tunes and the attitude. HC sounds too much like they were trying to recreate (WTS)MG?, which could never happen. HC is good, but the tunes on BHN are just better, HC is probably my least favorite Oasis album.

having more than one wacky song on an album (better man, she is love, force of nature) seems to be unforgivable with the british press and fans as well these days....oasis themselves set the standards very high didnt they.
and yes it sounds a bit like WTSMG..BOADC is the only experimental song..

I think Heathen Chemistry is a good record. It's notable that it was the first album since (WTS)MG? that Noel didn't come out afterwards and slag off (in later years he has denigrated MG a bit in comparison to DM, but with BHN and SOTSOG he came out in the immediate aftermath - or in SOTSOG's case, during the release of - and said they weren't that good).
Only song I don't like on it is Better Man. It's a bit boring. Oh, and A Quick Peep, cos it's pointless filler just there so Andy Bell gets some royalties. Other than that is a top album.

I think that HC is pretty good overall. I think on Heathen Chemisty, Noel Gallagher wrote some pretty good lyrics. "you look like a faded picture, i see the cracks freezing on your skin" just brillant.

it's enjoyable. Every single time I listen to it I think "wow this is great I should listen to it more often cos there are some top songs in it". THT, SCYHO, SB & LBL are fantastic. HIABP, BOADC are very good, and then SIL and FON are decent. But then after a while I forget all about it and I don't listen to it for months. my point is it's not memorable. some good tunes but to me it's the only album oasis didn't try to do something a bit different.
then again, it's probably better than most records made these days. I also think it was a mistake to have no producer. they probably didn't try hard enough and imo it shows

Stop Crying Your Heart Out is the best song Noel's written since The Masterplan.
And Songbird gets closer to Wonderwall every time I hear it.

it's mixed with me. some good songs (SCYHO, THT, FON (in my opinion), songbird) and some songs I don't like much.

I tend to think Heathen Chemistry is one of their overall weaker albums. That being said, I think Stop Crying Your Heart Out and Songbird are two of the best songs they've ever done. It's just that so many of the other songs aren't up to Oasis' standards, IMO.
I think Be Here Now, on the other hand, gets slagged on much too much. There are at least 4-5 awesome tracks on there. Don't Go Away will probably always be my favorite Oasis song. But Noel's right in saying too many of the songs drag for too long. Hell, All Around the World, although a great song, is at least 3 minutes too long.

I think the problem w/ HC is, is that it has no character. I like a lot of the songs on there but the album as a whole seems lost. Eveyone remembers this: DM- The raw and unreal debut MG-The world conquering BHN-The hype, the letdown, and the re-respect SOTSOG-The transition-experimental HC- ?? DBTT-The consistent comeback HC - just seems lost. However I seem to listen to it more than BHN as a whole. I think SOTSOG had the ability to be major if some of the b-sides were swapped out. I made my own SOTSOG (just from songs from that era) and it's mega.

Yeah, I agree with the above poster, Heathen Chemistry just seems kind of lost. Although, I would say that SOTSOG was an absolute failiure, but that's just my personal opinion, since I only liked two tracks on that whole record. Don't get me wrong, there's some great songs on Heathen Chemistry, but none of it really seemed original to me.

I can't believe what i've just read!! ?! Heathen Chemistry is a great album. Right up there with some of the best work Oasis have ever done. Surely your can't say The Hindu Times, Little By Little, Stop Crying Your Heart Out, Born On A Different Cloud and Better Man seem lost. No fucking way! Take out 'She Is Love' and replace it with 'You've Got The Heart (of a star)' and maybe replace 'Force Of Nature' with 'Thank You For The Good Times' and it would be the best Oasis album to date. The songs are brilliant! Even the b-sides. If there is one Oasis album that doesn't go anywhere, then look no further than 'Don't Believe The Truth'.

heathen chemistry was a good return to form amnd was a commercial success aswell.and it also produced some great b sides from the band aswell,i think its the production thats a bit flat on some of the songs thats all.just listen to boad live, fuckin immense!! like someone said dbbt although was a good fresh sound and solid throughout there was just soething missing i think liams songs wernt that strong an neither was gems although i think it shows how good andy is an that noel is still producing the goods, as for for sotsog ,its very underated ,fair enough theres a few lyrics that shouldnt be on there but the music is fantastic an if there was lets all make believe on there itd been fantastic but its not very single heavy

As I said before I really like HC. If they took A Quick Peep off and put a decent version of Thank You For The Good Times on instead it would've been even better.
I think TYFTGT was a real missed opportunity. Andy was obviously trying hard to write "an Oasis song" that the final version they came up with just sounded like a rip-off of Some Might Say and Noel's version of Heroes. If you listen to the stripped-down acoustic version of TYFTGT that Andy played live in Sweden then you can really hear that the song had potential.

Shout It Out Loud was the best B-side from HC.

Oasis have suffered from shit production throughout their career.
Even Definitely Maybe could have done with a bit more finesse. I love the wall of sound, but at times it's just taking the piss.
