Rarely play much consoles these days (dunno why, it's still great fun whenever I do pick up) but PES on the PS2 was just the best thing ever.
Pro Evo 3 - one of the best games of all time. When that came out it was a real game changer, I remember spending hours on it back in the day.
I hear PES is better than it has been in recent years, if I had to choose for the current generation of consoles, it would be Pro Evo still with pure sentiment and nostalgia driving me towards it.

FIFA. Although I haven't had the chance to play this years yet.

FIFA is a horrible organisation filled with corrupt bastards...
*adopts Morrissey voice* But I suppose you just want my opinion on the video game of the same name which I can't give because I've never played it, even though I have really.

FIFA all the way, grew up playing various incarnations of that game.

Pro evo FTW
The latest one is fantastic, Fifa always seems to be lacking something for me. Its got all the licences and what not, but as a game it comes up short against PRO.
Fifa seems too polished where as pro seems a more realistic football experience. For me its always been that way, even when everyone was creaming themselves over FIFA, never did it for me, not like pro does.

Agree with everything here, something about FIFA always leaves me feel there is something lacking. FIFA is like a supermodel - looks great, but it lacks soul.

Without a doubt PES for this year,
I was PES throughout the PS2 era but it failed miserably trying to adapt to the PS3. I jumped ship to FIFA around 11 and brought every one since (including this year). I brought both PES and FIFA 15 for the PS4 with the idea of trading one in after a month or so but FIFA bit the dust after 10 days.
Although FIFA was better graphically and had the licenses, PES's gameplay was miles better. Every game on FIFA feels the same, Hull play like Barcelona and there's no such thing as midfield. Whereas you can dictate how you want to play on PES and each game feels different. Playmakers who have no pace have a place in PES unlike in FIFA and the variety of goals you can score is staggering whereas FIFA's just seems so generic and like you're playing on rails,

Not really interested in either franchise anymore, switched to Football Manager last year and haven't looked back since. If you're looking for a fun football game then Football Manager is the way to go. FIFA don't change enough, every year they just add a couple of things which change the gameplay up a little bit and some new kit textures and updated squads. haven't played a PES since 2008 so I wouldn't know how they are doing.

Now that was a game I was obsessed with. I think racked up about 900 hours on FM11. I haven't really played it much recently though and didn't even buy the most recent one.

The thing with Football Manager is you don't have to even buy it every year. You can just download kit and squad updates.
