this is a top, quality tune imo
yeh its lengthy, but great lyrics, great guitar, great sound
under rated, along with BHN in general
and that explosion around 4:08 is FUCKIN MEGA

Why do people talk about the length of Be Here Now like it's a bad thing?

Why do people talk about the length of Be Here Now like it's a bad thing? Because many of the songs are too long.

Rubbish, killer tune. Loved it from the first time I heard a shockingly bad audience recording of it that surfaced a couple of days after the Knebworth show. Them was the days!

Why do people talk about the length of Be Here Now like it's a bad thing? Because many of the songs are too long. Slide Away is over 6 minutes long, so is Columbia. Champagne Supernova. Some Might Say goes on a bit. Are they 'too long'?

The songs on Be Here Now are so overdubbed and so compressed that the length induces ear fatigue, thus the problem. Ear fatigue is a legit thing by the way ;-) Not so much "man, i'm tired of listening to this" but your ears are legitimately tired like your legs would be after a marathon.

for the average rock and roll fan... if you could listen to Be Here Now.. without ever hearing DM or DBTT or WTSMG... you would call it a top album... but BHN just doesn't hold up against those other albums... again, this will be stated, for about the 19849848398 time....:
1. the songs are TOO long 2. the lyrics are SHIT 3. there is too much overdubbing and clutter

Because many of the songs are too long. Slide Away is over 6 minutes long, so is Columbia. Champagne Supernova. Some Might Say goes on a bit. Are they 'too long'? I hate this argument.... All songs are different - some work long (Stairway to Heaven) others wouldn't (Song 2)... There isn't one rule for all. Magic Pie simply should not be a 7 minute song, it just doesn't "fit" .....4 mins odd would have been much more apt given the essence of the song (for want of a better word) Champagne Supernova is a belter that builds up, and is right to have at 7+ minutes. ----- Similarly I'd have said they'd have fucked up if they'd made Wonderwall 11 minutes long... What would you do? Argue that it must be right, because The End is brilliant & also 11 minutes long?

A good song but it should end at that bit where it sounds like it's about to end but starts up again. And yeah it's too "loud" so it sounds distorted at times just like some of the other songs on the album.
As for the length of all the other songs - the only songs that are too long are my big mouth, magic pie, dirty shirt, and getting better...
I really don't mind that AATW is like 10 mins long because the length works for some and doesn't for others.

No. But then they aren't surrounded by 10 other long songs on the same record, are they? On their respective albums they are exceptions and not the rule. On Be Here Now EVERY SONG goes on for fucking ages. Is cokehead self-indulgence and is a shame as there are some great tunes in there buried under all that noise.
