I say he didn't. My mate says he did.

Because he played on Come Together with the Smokin' Mojo Filters on that Warchild album, but HE DID play on Fade In/Out on Be Here Now.

I swear i've seen something that says that Depp playing on Fade Away is a myth, in the same way that I Am The Walrus off the Cigs & Alc single WASN'T played at the Glasgow Cathouse.

Whos right?

Yep. They credit him for it on the release of the song for the Don't Go Away single.

He did also play slide guitar on FI/O.

As best I can tell you, he wasn't on Come Together.

Didn’t he also guest appear on ‘Don’t Go Away’?
I think he may of joined Oasis on stage live or perhaps during the recording of Be Here Now.

Anyone shed any light on this?

Right, that was the band, but I have the CD single and the full lineup for the song is:

Weller - lead vocals/guitar
McCartney - guitar/piano/backing vocals
Noel - guitar
Steve White - drums
Carleen Anderson - backing vocals
Steve Craddock - guitar

But no Johnny.

The 'Warchild' version of "Fade Away" is from the 'HELP' album recorded in September 1995. It features Noel on vocals, and guests Johnny Depp on guitar, Kate Moss on tambourine and Lisa Moorish on backing vocals [1]. All proceeds from that track went to Warchild Charities.
