I saw the Paris gig the other day and the first thing that came to my mind was how much I miss Gems great guitar playing!
Don't get me wrong - I love how much more Rock'n'Roll Noel sound on this tour but his guitar player (who looks a lot like Owen Wilson by the way) doesn't do it for me. I'm sure he is a great guitar player technically but he just doesn't have that emotional connection to the songs like Gem had and I think one can hear that especially on the Oasis songs. Just listen to Champagne Supernova and his guitar solos sound kind of bored to me. If you listen to the Noel/Gem acoustic gigs from 2006 instead, you can hear how much more emotional the guitar solos sound. I mean just listen to Fade Away or Don't Look Back in Anger from that period and it "makes me wanne cry" every time I hear it:)
So does anyone know if Noel is still talking to Gem? I remember Liam once said that he is kind of pissed that Gem and Noel were still meeting even after the Oasis split. So it makes me wonder why there wasn't any chance of him joining Noel on his recent tour especially since Beady Eye doesn't exist anymore.
Any thoughts?

I see no chance. Noel is happy with tim smith and would not kick him for gem. But i miss him too

Well the Oasis reunion speculation news would be through the fucking roof, so probably not.

Gem would be too profilic to join HFB. Noel likes people who are comfortable taking a back seat, thats probably why the original guitarist bailed out, cos he was too much of public figure.

I think that Gem would be fine with taking a back seat. Seems like his favourite thing is playing guitar. I think he's be fine with restraining his songwriting to something he did on his own and only contributing to Noel's music bits of guitars pieces

As for Gem, after what happened to him he'd be happy with just being onstage, i think. Plus, when Noel did his acoustic tour, he was "just" the extra guitarist. Noel made his career, so he'll agree to anything.

I was about to start a thread about Tim Smith's guitar playing. He's a good guitarist but it sounds so different on songs that we already know (like the masterplan), and really makes me miss Gem. Maybe it's just about what we're used to?

I can only assume it's out of some sort of loyalty to Liam, perhaps they're waiting for the Beady Eye split to heal a bit longer. I have no doubt the band would be much better with Gem on lead. I really don't like Tim's playing at all.

Don't think Gem ever will join NGHFB, it would be too much like Oasis almost getting back together. Gem is gone until Oasis reform which is a shame.

I tweeted Lou after the gig in Utrecht that Gem was missed playing lead #shakealongwithgem she favoured the tweet. I did my part now it's up to General Dread.
I do think Gem will be at the TCT gig.

I'm not a big fan of Gem really. The whole "later Oasis" band didn't do anything for me. There's a certain energy that was in the band's first few albums that was lost once the new guys came around.
ALSO. A little off topic, but have any of you noticed that since DBTT, a vast majority of the drumming on all the songs is just basically THUMP THUMP THUMP, reallllyyy basic pounding to the tempo? Songs like Lyla, Lord Don't Slow Me Down, Dream On, Mucky Fingers, Soldier Boys, Bag It Up, there are tons more examples! If there's anything missing from current Oasis/Noel stuff, I'd say it's a solid drummer who brings life to the songs.

I have nothing against this guy but i can't stop thinking about how good Champagne Supernova would sound with Gem on lead on the recent Noel tour! One can dream

He sounds great and you can feel that there is some kind of connection between them. I don't know how close Noel is to his band members but I can't see or hear a big connection between them. Sometimes when he is about to get emotional on some songs - it's just the next song for the other guys. Do you know what i mean?

I agree with champagne supernova that Tim hasn't nailed it...but think generally he is good enough
Gem for me was awesome and especially on Noel's acoustic solo tour. Listen up solo was spectacular
But gem won't join HFBs ..it just wouldn't make sense at this stage
Most of us will miss Gem but we should enjoy the past for what it was and each era of noel/oasis had its place. Gem and Andy were polished and bonehead and guigs weren't BUT that suited oasis then.

Noel reunion! If there was an oasis reunion then I would expect it to be White and Bonehead...not sure about guigsy....think he might not have the confidence. But at risk of this thread becoming about oasis reunions..so we should shelve that talk Gem won't join tour and unlikely to make any appearance.
