I know it sold out in 1 hour, but there are a few things I would like to know.
Why was the venue all seated?
Why was a large amount of tickets given away by radio and tv companies?
My feeling is that the Oasis management were unsure they would sell the venue out. There is no other reason for it? I would say it backfired on them when all the remaining tickets sold out in 1 hour. I bet they wished it was standing on the arena floor and that they hadn’t given as many tickets away.

Exactly how many tickets do you think were given away by radio and tv companies? That's normal at MSG to have it be seated on the floor for shows. It's also normal for every show to give away tickets for local promotions. Backfired? Hardly. I paid $100 for two seats pretty high up, let alone the shirts, programs, posters, etc. that others bought at the gig. Plus, they can say they sold out MSG in an hour.

The capacity for MSG is approx. 20'000 My understanding is that on the night of the Oasis show it was approx 14’000. I know this because I asked a couple of stewards and security guys. I also spoke to several fans and they told me quite a few tickets were given away as well. Then take into account the seating arrangement on the floor it does make you think. I know people who have been to MSG when the arena floor has been standing. Maybe it’s just me, but I think Oasis management kind of restricted the tickets so to make it easier to sell out?

No, the 14k is a normal number because they didnt open up seats behind the stage. That's the type of stage Oasis uses for every gig. They do that when they play stadiums (losing probly 20k ticket sales in the process) in the UK where they could easily fill the stadium 3 times over. Personally, I've never known of MSG being open standing room. Now, I've been to some huge shows at the Garden and MSG (Billy Joel, Neil Diamond [wen't with the parents]), and I've never known them to make the floor "Standing Room Only". With most gigs, they'll leave seats in limited view unavailable until a few weeks before the show as they gauge response to the show. Suffice to say, I'm sure Oasis would've had no problem selling out more shows. They've reached a different status in the U.S. In a sense they're becoming like jam bands where they don't have huge record sales but word gets around about what a great live show they are so they become a huge draw. They sold out smaller markets with bigger crowds (Boston, Baltimore/D.C.) and sold out two nights at the Hollywood Bowl, which is 20k+. Based on that, no, I don't think Oasis needed any help selling out the Garden.

MSG does have events where they make the bottom level general admission...Its mostly for heavy metal shows though...I saw Metallica and NIN there and they made the floor level GA. I think its because its a completely different (more aggressive) set of concert goers who dont give a fook storming the front.

I've only seen concerts with the same stage and seating as Oasis at the Garden and they were all huge acts ( ie. Roger Waters, Clapton, Cold Play, AC DC.....)

I understand Snow Patrol are playing the Garden.
Do you think they can sell it out?
