After hearing 'past life' for the first time, I immediately deleted it and moved the track numbers after one down, just pretending it never existed.
Overall I am enjoying it, not a patch on the other 2 albums though for me

"Past Life" would have made sense as an outtake for the album seeing as it had some weird bits. 12 tracks rounds it off perfectly excluding PL. Everything seriously does fit together nicely, though. But overall, I'm very happy with the album. Nice one, Parker!

ugh Ian Cohen review though... That whole second paragraph is kinda sloppy in my opinion. .3 higher than Lonerism. This whole Tame Impala (Parker) blew everything up and ditched his guitars for synths narrative is kinda of annoying me. Yes this album is different and there's more keys but its a natural evolution. Hardly the artist turn like Yankee Hotel Foxtrot or Kid A. The production is still HEAVILY compressed and its not like I couldn't imagine Parker making this. I really enjoy this album, safe to say its great and will definitely be in my top 10. The biggest difference for me is that this features a lot more soulful singing from Parker and his lyrics are way way more personal. The synths narrative is reaching on overboard. Tame Impala never gave me a band vibe, so I kinda always thought of it as a studio wizard project and this album was bound to happen at point. Guitars for keys, keys for guitars great projects make progress.... Eventually aaahhhhh ahhhhhh

If you go back and watch interviews with Kevin he says he had keyboards made to sound like guitars. He actually ditched them back in 2012. I agree Currents is not Kid A or Yankee Hotel Foxtrot but that's ok. It's still an awesome record. Time will tell if it's a "classic" or not.

To be honest I think Lonerism is much better. The singles are all great, I like The Less I know the better, the others are not touching me.
Also, this could be the very first relatively commercially successful Tame Impala's album, maybe.

The first two albums are better, yes. But I like Currents. I've been listening to it all day. Nangs, Gossip and Past Life are bad, boring and meaningless songs, though. At the moment my favourites are Yes I'm Changing and The Less I Know The Better (the groove and the verses are brilliant), and I still think Eventually, Let It Happen and Cause I'm A Man are good songs.
I like that this album is a little bit softer than the first two, I have to say. Nice with a little variation.

It was always gonna be hard for him to follow up Lonerism, that is a true journey of an album. A modern day classic

Not that into the new album. Admittedly I've gone off the band a bit over the last year or so but bar Let It Happen I think the rest of this is quite boring. I'll leave it and come back to it in a few weeks and see if I change my mind about it though.

To me the last three songs are just forgettable. It's brilliant until track 10.

A very good album overall. I didn't really notice the absence of guitars until they actually appeared on side C, which provided some great touches, especially on Disciples. The only track I didn't really like was Past Life. Even without the speech sample, I still wouldn't like it.
