There's something about Record Machine which makes it sound very cheesy and it makes me feel sleepy. I just can't put my finger on it. Also, Stranded On The Wrong Beach has some really cool effects like a church clock in the instrumental bit right before the second verse, and a glass harmonica in parts of the song, and YOU. JUST. CAN'T. HEAR. THEM. Basically what Sardy did was take the life out of songs, make it sound plodding, and make it sound like you're stuck with your head in the kitchen sink. A lot of cool effects have gone lost and it all sounds too one dimensional. Yeah............Record Machine and Stop The Clocks never sat right in the pocket for me neither. They seemed like relics from the past that weren't needed on Noel's debut solo album. Plus the recordings are ordinary at best.

I genuinely believe that I could have done a better job, if given the resources.
God bless.

Friend of mine described CY as 'sharper' than the last one. I'd agree with that. Whatever that means.

You can tell CY was made by someone who was actually into what they were doing and out to prove something, i.e. Noel of the back of his successful album and tour, stepping up to the plate.
When you're living in cloud cuckoo land (BHN) or not even sure what your band is anymore (DOYS), you could have the best producer in the world and it's still gonna sound wrong.

Lol Hah, i know what the word sharper means, and i agree that it is indeed sharper sonically, but believe you me, the girl that said that, you can never be 100 percent sure what she meant even by saying the most obvious thing in the world. I fuckin' hate her. . "That band sounds like sun dried tomatoes with kiwi " she once said to me . She's great to talk music though cause it actually sounded a bit like that That's where my "whatever that means" came from. From fuckin' kiwi

The problem with Dave Sardy is that he is just so ordinary in the producer chair compared to Noel's iconic songwriting. To me, Noel always deserved better. A proper sonic collaborator. Sorta like Nigel Godrich and Radiohead, Davie Bowie and Brian Eno, or Markus Dravs and Arcade Fire. I'd argue Spike Stent could've been the guy for Noel & Oasis, but unfortunately, things didn't work out, and plus, Stent works with a lot of big artists so I don't think a committed producer/artist relationship could've been achieved. It was still really cool to see him produce Standing on the Shoulder of Giants and really bring out what Noel was up to in the fine details of each song when the brickwall was toned down.

I am curious what a David Holmes produced record might bring out in Noel's songs. Noel goes electronica?

When you're living in cloud cuckoo land (BHN) or not even sure what your band is anymore (DOYS), you could have the best producer in the world and it's still gonna sound wrong. Except, with DOYS, the end result was pretty solid, aside from those two tracks towards the end (AGN, TNOR), and the element of the unknown somewhat present in the songs made it an almost perfect swansong for Oasis.

Well everyone hit the nail with the production. I couldn't get over some of the lyrics that Noel was signing
"just depends on the weight of my load" ruined stranded. Couldnt listen to it without thinking about taking a dump
". But she was just a baby doll" lol I cringed too much to ever listen to that song again "I wanna piece of the world, And everyone inside my mouth" lol
EOTR, DOYAM, WAL, BA, Are the only songs I really liked.
This album is way better
