I didn't listen to the leak, I waited until yesterday and purchased it, first day of release - HMV in Dublin were blasting the album at lunchtime, and a nice display at shop front with the LP, Standard Edition CD and Deluxe. (Japanese Deluxe seems to have the lot though, all of the bonus tracks)
I felt 'In the heat of the Moment' wasn't that good a few weeks ago on initial hearing, 'The Ballad of the Mighty I' was much better.
The album is getting very mixed reviews already, one day after release - fellow Oasis/Noel loving friends of mine spoke the same as opinions here on tracks to skip. A topic elsewhere on this board examines just that and some posters skipping three, even four tracks, already. That's quite astonishing really, just under half the album seems to be 'skippable. I would broadly agree - though only one day in - 4 tracks are a bit on the blander side, but that is made up by some of the others which range from good to stellar.
I honestly enjoyed the B Sides even better than quite a few from the album, 'Do the Damage', 'Revolution Song' in particular.
Noel's contemporaries the Manic Street Preachers 'Futurology' last year is an example of a fantastic late career album; 8 months on I'm still listening. Terrific record, as was 2013's 'Rewind the Film'.
A compilation of the better tracks, along with the good B Sides, and we have quite a good follow up to the original High Flying Birds opus. Not a great album; a good one, some highlights and some bland, he can do better is the feeling a lot of reviews thus far are saying.

It's almost universally loved on here, it's getting better reviews than HFB1 and a lot are saying the tracklist is fine, dunno what you're on about! Casual fans won't like it as much as HFB1 because it's a bit less instant and poppy but I've only heard positives so far

Must be the local opinion of wherever you live, here on the forums it's a very different story. And most reviewers are giving it positive reviews.

Hey Ricky,
Fair enough if most seem to love it; I'm not a casual fan, been a big fan for almost 20 years now - all the albums, all the B Sides, plenty live DVD's' - doesn't seem like 20 years but the time has flown; ever since the end of 1995, beginning of 1996 really.
I thought HFB1 was okay, not as good as I thought it would be though it did have some great songs; kind of like the last few Oasis albums - 'Heathen Chemistry' case in point, I loved it at the time, still do, but when I hear that album, it obviously have some clunkers, yet it has some absolute gold on the B Sides! 'Idlers Dream', 'Shout it out Loud', 'Just Getting Older' - those 3, along with the best of HC, and you have a damn fine album. Less so with DBTT and DOYS, I felt the albums as they were were very good.
I've only heard 'Chasing Yesterday' since Friday, yet in saying that I had it on each day since, including this morning, plenty o' listens. I maybe one of the few then who think it's not the great album most do; it does include some excellent tracks - 'Ballad of the Mighty I', 'You know we can't go back', the wonderful 'The Right Stuff', 'Riverman' &'Revolution Song'. But it also includes what I think is his worst song in ages, 'The Mexican', and tracks that aim for greatness but miss that spark to elevate - 'Dying of the Light', 'While the song remains the Same'. Two I'd initially rated higher I find a bit more uninspired after 10 or so listens; 'Lock all the Doors' (more of a good B Side really, certainly not up there with the best of the era it originated in), and 'Girl with X Ray Eyes'.
A good album, certainly, but not a great one.

^ Sacrificing The Right Stuff & While The Song Remains The Same (two weakest songs, although still bloody good) and replace with Do The Damage (like Noel shoulda bloody done), Revolution Song & Leave My Guitar Alone and you've got a perfect album. Personally, I don't want Freaky Teeth connected to this record at all, but what can you do.

The Right Stuff is far from the weakest song on the album for me. While the Song Remains the Same and Heat of the Moment are the only two meh songs on the album. And they are a lot better than the three worst on HFB.
I've only listened to the album a few times (once when it first leaked and a couple more times when the iTunes stream went up) and I still can't get Riverman and Lock all the Doors out of my head. Those, The Dying of the Light, Ballad of the Mighty I and The Right Stuff are all brilliant IMO.
I don't think any of the b-sides should have made the album. I don't prefer Do the Damage to either of the two worst really. And having 2 songs that are 15+ years old on a 10 track album would just be too much.
