Okay, this might sound a stupid question, but what time should I arrive at a gig (with a standing ticket) for a decent view? I'm going to the Nottingham gig and obviously NGHFB is a very popular band so I know I'm going to have to get there early, but how early? Cheers

This question is too specific to answer for you. It varies from city to city and even country to country. I go to many shows in the US, and I haven't bothered to show up any earlier than a half hour before doors open in years and almost always end up exactly where I want to be in a standing crowd. This goes for artists that are super popular here to the lesser loved. Typically in the center about halfway from the stage to the back, sometimes I get closer. It just depends.
The only time you should ever consider lining up hours before a gig is if you feel some irresistible urge to be right at the rail, but despite being able to see up the artist's nostrils it doesn't provide the best sound.
I would assume that since its a UK gig, there will be more people showing up early b/c of Noel's popularity there, but unless you're one of those wackjobs that enjoy standing in front of a closed door for hours on end, go have a few pints, maybe a bite to eat, get to the venue an hour or so before the doors open and you'll find yourself in a good spot.

I was actually wondering the same thing. I'm from The Netherlands and going to the gig in Utrecht, but I've never been to such a small venue so I have no idea how that will go.

Doesn't really matter. People aren't gona be polite enough to standy in order at the front from whence they entered. Go in any time before it kicks off and push forward to fuck.

I did Nottingham arena last tour and got there well after the doors opened and was easy to get to maybe 6-7 rows of the barrier just walking freely through the crowd (i.e. not pushing or saying excuse me, "my mates up there sorry")

If you fear a packed house I suggest eating a large meal that will give you the worst possible gas. Then toot your way to the front......

I'm going to Nottingham, we'll be going in as late as possible. Hate being in early for gigs, not interested in the support and the beer is massively overpriced.
For arena gigs I'd say just go in about 15 minutes before he's due on and push your way to the front. I hate being right at the front anyway

Make sure you leave enough time to do a poo. Needing to poo mid gig is a proper vibe killer.

If he insists on playing that piece of shit with all the songs at his disposal, I'll defecate on the arena floor

Get a few drinks down you, make sure you get there just before Black Rivers though, they are great. Just push as deep as you can get without annoying anyone, you will get in a decent spot. Was abit easier with Oasis, everyone dived around, so could push through the breaks in the crowd and be right at the front in a couple of tracks.

Yes! It was always easy to come in front when FITB started! Till that moment I was drinking beer ar the behibd. Never was interested in the supportibg act and give a shit what people say in the crowd when you walk forward to the front... It's not my problem. If they want to stay in the front and wayt there hours, that's not my problem. Sorry that I sound like a asshole!

So you reckon i'll get a decent view if i go in like 20 minutes before NG comes on? Definitely. For smaller gigs we always ask the doorman what time they're due on, go to the pub and turn up 5-10 minutes beforehand. Bit different for arena gigs but that'd be more than enough time. I'm sure someone on here will post what time he's due on stage - it's usually about 9pm so we'll turn up 8:30, get a pint etc and go in about 8:45. Got a spare ticket for Nottingham incidentally if anyone is interested.
