...and the intro is so similar to that of 'The Verve - Weeping Willow', I knew I recognised it from somewhere, The Mexican also reminds me of a BRMC tune, can't think which one though...

Can we please create a thread for where Noel has taken inspiration fro for each song for this album please and possibly previous album. The Right Stuff reminds me of BRMC with the intro.

The Riverman chords remind me of Loose Fit by the Happy Mondays. While The Song Remains the Same gives me a Coldplay vibe (in a good way)

Coldplay are dying a slow death now whereas Noel is being reborn.

Mexican' chorus is Whatever Happened To My Rock N Roll (which Noel publicly praised back in 2004 or so). Weeping Willow and TDOTL share the exact same chord progression for the verse and chorus (Em D C D), so you're absolutely right.

I would agree that Coldplay's latest effort was deplorable.

The Dying of the Light sounds like a badass version of Wonderwall (excluding DYKWIM, which is Wonderwall on steroids). There I said it.

Coldplay are dying a slow death now whereas Noel is being reborn. I'm pretty sure a future Chris Martin album is gonna do the business both in the UK and America.

I would agree that Coldplay's latest effort was deplorable. Ghost Stories had it's moments like Always In My Mind, Magic, Midnight and O.

The melody for the first line of Leave My Guitar Alone sounds so familiar but I can't for the life of me think from where.

fuck this coldplay vibe bullshit. there is nothing coldplay-ish about that song. Except the guitar licks that are often lifted directly off X&Y. Coldplay are certainly declining - nothing more than a 6/10 since Viva IMO...although Mylo and Ghost Stories would both be much better with a revised tracklisting I expect A Head Full of Dreams to be utterly mediocre rock-pop too. But then I watch Politik live 2003 and remember that these guys are capable of creating some of the most gorgeous pop-rock ever, hopefully Chris goes back to aspiring to be Radiohead rather than One Direction.

Loved Coldplays early stuff upto VLV. Then it just decended into poppy mediocrity. I believe they're recording another album just now which I think they said would be their last (hopefully). I saw them live in early 2000 and they were great. I though they were awful the last time I saw them which was the tour with the light up wristbands.
