For me, Oasis between 2000 and 2009 was "what if?". Noel and co. really screwed up rushing out Be Here Now cause of their fame. They should've waited until at least October of '99 or 2000 like SOTSOG and came out swinging with tunes like Shock of the Lightning, Roll It Over, and Gas Panic. It would've been friggin unbelievable. Can you imagine if Be Here Now looked like this: 1. D'You Know What I Mean? 2. My Big Mouth 3. The Shock of the Lightning 4. Stand By Me (Acoustic full band and strings, like Wonderwall) 5. Gas Panic! 6. I Can See A Liar 7. Fade In-Out 8. I Hope, I Think, I Know 9. Be Here Now 10. Don't Go Away 11. All Around The World 12. Roll It Over ^ Now that is a A+ Oasis album! The Shock of The Lightning wasn't written until 2007 though...?

I think I remember the Millionaire interview and maybe Kill For A Dream, but I've never seen Four Letter Word linked to DOYS before. Could have been but I don't recall it. Don't think there's any proof it was specifically pitched for DOYS but Andy said it was written in 2007 when he was asked 'Is it about Noel?' Seen a few people mention Come On Outside, has anyone actually heard this? I.e. demos, soundchecks, etc? Seems to have passed me by Aye there's a demo out there, Joakim shared it a couple of years ago now.

Yeah FLW was mentioned being considered for DOYS sessions. Evil Eye is very underrated. It has a melody that rivals Noel's ballads. I like BE's version but i think Noel could have made it a bit better. Then, i'd say Morning Son, Four Letter Word, Soul Love, probably the Roller, which we'll hear someday as Oasis. That's about it. But where was it mentioned. Not saying you are wrong but it's always something people say on this forum but I've never seen an interview where Noel or Andy say that. I heard Andy mention Millionaire and Kill For A Dream. But not four letter word. I've heard Noel mention Millionaire, mentioned about it sounding like The Charlatans, or the lyric "You Need To Know Yourself" at least.

That's why I included it, cause I agree. Well what I was trying to illustrate is that's the type of song I wanted from Oasis in 2000. Fast paced, slightly electronic and modern. SOTSOG could have used a good commercial single like that. Especially in America. Go Let It Out did nothing.

While it is an acoustic track, I think it would've sounded really good if it had been placed, between To Be Where There's Life and Ain't Got Nothin', but even better if Ain't Got Nothin' would've been replaced with Come On Outside. Oh the possibilities..

They're the same type of song (short 2-2:30 long), but one is a fun little pop song with rock tendencies, and the other is annoying drivel that somehow rambles enough to make a 2 minute song seem about 3:30 long. Both, of course, penned by Liam.

I think I remember the Millionaire interview and maybe Kill For A Dream but I've never seen Four Letter Word linked to DOYS before. Could have been but I don't recall it. Will try to post some proof tomorrow...too late now over here for any proper journalistic action! Alright, here's most of the information I've gathered over the years. I've been trying to put together a Oasis related (career spanning) recording sessions chronology for quite some time now and basically tried to collect all the info I could get my hands on (for anyone interested, I had already and prematurely posted my attempt at a DBTT sessions chronology - I'm open for corrections and suggestions! : live4ever.proboards.com/post/1143354/thread)Millionaire:Noel: "'Millionaire' was gonna be on the last record, but I just cringed at the line, 'You've just got to know yourself'. I was like, 'Nooooo, not f***ing having that.' I thought it sounded like The Charlatans." (NME interview, 2011) "Andy Bell penned the song in 2007, after returning home from a trip to Spain. It was inspired by a road trip with his pal Iain, when they visited a bar in the fishing village of Cadaqués, which was full of pictures of Salvador Dali hanging out with the Rolling Stones. The pair then journeyed from the coast to Figueres, where the Dali museum is before proceeding on to the artist's house by the sea at Port Ligat." www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=22229Four Letter Word"Dates back to the Oasis days, most likely to the point in time that Noel referred to when he said that on first joining Oasis, Andy and Gem “both tried to write what they thought were Oasis songs were like.” Because this is by far the most Oasis-sounding tune on the album, in the vein of ‘Headshrinker’ or ‘Bring It On Down’ or ‘(I Got) The Fever’." www.nme.com/blogs/nme-blogs/beady-eye-different-gear-still-speeding-what-do-you-think (2011) There is another reference to FLW out there, basically sayingthat it was considered for DOYS - but I had only paraphrased the quote and then saved it. Any help or hints where that was mentioned would be greatly appreciated! And for the sake of it, some more information on some more songs from DGGS, or as Steve Lillywhite put it, "a collection of Oasis outtakes": Beatles & Stones"Along with ‘Morning Son’, this one was mentioned as far back as 2009, in an interview Liam did while promoting Pretty Green in Italy." www.nme.com/blogs/nme-blogs/beady-eye-different-gear-still-speeding-what-do-you-think#DoSlk0pKFg0EFClh.99 (2011) Wind Up Dream- "almost as old as The Roller" (without reference) "Gem’s second contribution, and his second oldest, too." www.nme.com/blogs/nme-blogs/beady-eye-different-gear-still-speeding-what-do-you-think#DoSlk0pKFg0EFClh.99 (2011) Kill For A Dream- has been around since 2001, discarded by Noel (without reference) - the first song Andy wrote for Oasis (without reference) "This is another one that was likely discarded in the pile previously marked by Noel as “sounds too much like Oasis”." www.nme.com/blogs/nme-blogs/beady-eye-different-gear-still-speeding-what-do-you-think#DoSlk0pKFg0EFClh.99 (2011) Standing On The Edge Of The Noise"...it provided the title of a one-off Oasis TV special back in 2008, and dates back to that period" www.nme.com/blogs/nme-blogs/beady-eye-different-gear-still-speeding-what-do-you-think#DoSlk0pKFg0EFClh.99 (2011) The Morning Son- an early version (?) titled "I Stand Alone" was mentioned by the press in 2004 as part of the DIV session and described as a "massive epic song" Noel: "The Morning Son' has been around for the best part of five years." (NME interview, 2011) "…and it all ends with this dreamy Liam ballad, which he mentioned along with ‘Beatles & Stones’ back in 2009." www.nme.com/blogs/nme-blogs/beady-eye-different-gear-still-speeding-what-do-you-think#DoSlk0pKFg0EFClh.99 (2011) For AnyoneLiam: "Has been around for awhile" (without reference) The Roller"In an interview for the December 2000 edition of Select Magazine, Noel made the following brief quote about this song. "Gem's written his first song for the band, called 'The Roller' - it's like T Rex doing `Instant Karma'". On the 27th June 2002, in an interview for BBC Radio London, Noel mentioned the song whilst talking about Gem. "He wrote two [songs for Heathen Chemistry], one was called 'The Roller' which we didn't, for whatever reason, didn't quite nail in the studio, that'll probably end up on a b-side somewhere.", This confirms that 'The Roller' is in fact a completely separate song to 'Hung In A Bad Place' and not a working title, as was commonly thought." (taken from Mr. Monobrow's old Website, this page in particular is no longer online) Noel: " 'The Roller', yeah, I always thought was gonna be a f***ing mega, mega hit for Oasis, but it never got past the demo stage. "I remember playing drums on a version of 'The Roller'. I've always liked that song. So there's a version of that with me on it somewhere in the vaults." (NME interview, 2011) "The first single is a Gem song, and dates back to ‘Heathen Chemistry’. It was his first song to be recorded by Oasis during their fifth album sessions, with Noel saying “it’s like T Rex doing ‘Instant Karma’, and Gem himself calling it “a campfire song”. In an NME interview I did with Noel in the run up to ‘Dig Out Your Soul’, he mentioned that Gem “has got a couple of fucking great hit singles which we have never used, just because we missed the boat on ’em. He’s got a great one called ‘The Roller’ from years ago." www.nme.com/blogs/nme-blogs/beady-eye-different-gear-still-speeding-what-do-you-think#DoSlk0pKFg0EFClh.99 (2011) [There's been tons of references to The Roller made, especially by Noel, since 2001]
And to sum it up, another quote by Noel from 2011: "The former Oasis guitarist recognises a number of tracks from Beady Eye's debut album 'Different Gear, Still Speeding': 'I'd heard a few of those tunes [on 'Different Gear, Still Speeding'] before.' "

Like I said, there IS another reference out there that I definitely had read in about 2011, then kind of paraphrased and saved in a text document. Because I was keeping notes only for private pastime at that time I stupidly didn't note any source.

I just realized Liam wouldn't sound half bad singing A Simple Game of Genius. Let alone the song itself should've been the closer on NGHFB1. I'd support that if something was done about this:

I read the other day that kaiser chiefs (shit and non comparable to the gallaghers I know) all the songs were written by the drummer who left yet they carry on with the name and performing the songs.
Fair play to liam for changing it completely. Big bold move. And for those who thought 2 oasis songs in the set were a complete travesty, the above is what could have happened and it didn't. Fair play liam.
