What was the circumstances of the release of Alone on the Rope? I seem to remember it as a surprise of sorts at the time, and something that was never officially announced or recognized.
Here's hoping there will be a similar surprise on this album...

One of the best Noel songs ever in my book! So wouldn't mind another surprise release.
Would love to have it on the upcoming tour.

I think we would have gotten it by now, but yes, I'd love another exclusive release like that.

Was there ever a release of Alone On The Rope, besides the digital?

Was there ever a release of Alone On The Rope, besides the digital? Nope, it should have been on 'songs from the great white north' though! That would have made it a bit more special

Here's hoping there will be a similar surprise on this album... It was the Amazon bonus track (and still is) for the album in quite a few countries. Its release was sort of a leak. Basically they put it up for sale a bit too soon so we had it even before we had the record. It was announced only in the fact that it was a bonus track. I don't think he's acknowledged it in an interview or anything, but it has been performed live. It'd not surprise me if it was played on the upcoming tour Live version: I think the reason its never been released elsewhere is it probably has an exclusivity time with Amazon, obviously its to the tune of years, because there's really no reason else why it at least didnt make the Great White North EP. As for a "similar surprise" IMO the only chance of that left is Leave My Guitar Alone. The other tracks aren't of Alone on the Rope's calibur.

He played it, for the first time, at the RAH at the last show of the previous tour. Might suggest that it could be played this time over.... maybe?

He seemed concious of the fact that the same people were coming to a few of his shows in England, so felt obliged to throw in a couple of rare numbers "for the connoisseurs". He also wasn't surprised when those same songs got next to no reaction - in his eyes anyway - such as Idler's Dream and Alone on the Rope. And of course, he's got more solo songs to choose from now, so I'd be surprised to see a setlist with so many obscurities ever again.

I don't believe for a second that it was Liam to blame for that.

But Noel has always been open of his feeling that a fan in one side of of the world should have the same experience of the fan at the other side. Which I guess if somewhat admirable, but misses the point of the live setting, which should be like a football match in that anything and anything can happen. The record is the thing that should be a universal and similar experience for fans across the world to experience.
