excellent:
The Dying of the light Riverman The right stuff
Good:
In the heat of the moment You know we can't go back Ballad of the mighty I The girl with the x ray eyes
Weak: While the song remains the same The Mexican Lock all the doors

I've been reading your rants about In the heat of the moment here and now everybody hates it?? Wtf I don't understand all this hate. It's a catchy song, it's hell of fun... ok, it's not "The Masterplan", but it's a great song.

I haven't given this a proper review yet. I haven't actually listened to it for a couple of days; not wanting to overplay it before it actually comes out.
For now, all I'll say is this. If Definitely Maybe inspired a generation of kids to pick up the guitar then this'll inspire a new generation to learn the bass clarinet.

1. Riverman 7/10 - The verses bore me, they meander. The melody in the chorus is beautiful.
2. In The Heat of the Moment - 8.5 /10. Legitimately thing if the Na Na Na's weren't so annoying this could've been a huge hit single. One of the biggest chorus's Noel has released. Video makes me wanna cry.
3. The Girl With The X-Ray Eyes - 6/10 - Slightly too melancholic and uninspiring lyrics. Strange sounding guitar.
4. Lock all the Doors - 7/10. I can't not hear Liam on this. Struggle and fail to stop myself from imagining his vocals ripping this one a new edge. It's a great rock tune, we needed Liam on this. Guess it'll be alright to play while driving.
5. The Dying of the Light 7/10 - Sad at how the production turned out on this one. It's heavy and the vocals are smooth but somehow some of the emotion has been lost. And the emotion is what made it stand out so much.
6. The Right Stuff 6/10 - It's an interesting filler. I don't crave to go back to it. It means absolutely nothing and it's not perefect. Why is there a gap between You and I got the...right stuff?" It sounds off.
7. While The Song Remains The Same - 5/10. Depressing, means nothing much. He sounds tired.
8. The Mexican 7/10 - Has a cool groove and some energy. Nothing too expansive here.
9. You Know We Can't Go Back - 10/10. So much energy, so much interiority in the lyrics and it's clear it's meant for somebody. Lyrics that inspire emotion in almost every line. Chord progressions are uplifting, bridge and chorus make you wanna soar. Invincinble feeling. Themes of (lost) love, hope, with a powerful rock and roll sureness in his voice. 10. The Ballad of the Mighty I - 7/10. An interesting creation. Could've used something new to make it a catchy single but not everything's designed to be a single. Produced really well and the "I'll find you" is memorable.
TL;DR: a good Album from Noel. Less emotion than the debut but honestly more fun to listen to 7.5/10

I enjoy reading these reviews, it is really apparent that some users have a tiny palette when it comes to music.

Horses for courses isn't it.

Riverman: Awesome, best thing he has done since the 90's Heat of the moment: I'm liking this more and more, its fits well in the album Girl x-ray eyes: can't find anything to like about this one lock all the doors: it rocks!, lyrics could of been better but the actual music lets that slide dying of the light: good without being great for me the right stuff: i love it song remains the same: i dig it, most underrated song on the album the mexican: its filler for me, would of preferred damage done instead Cant go back: its nice but lyrics are to cliched for me to fall in love with it ballad of the might it: i really like it Overall: It has more to offer then the debut, the top 3-4 songs are excellent and i like the production and experimental side of it

After further listening this is almost a perfect album for me. It's takes you on a proper trip through the emotions , euphoria , ecstasy, sadness, regret, wonder , love and whatever else. I think its well laid out too. ill be listening to this album for the next 3/4 year till HFB3 or whatever else. Hope he sticks to the more experimental sound.

It's almost like the full Gallagher catalogue of writing skills is on show with a bit of experimentation thrown in for good measure. Really hope it sells well commercially.

"1. The guys that are stuck in the 90s and want another ballsy, Red Stripe swilling DM album, Typically seen swaggering around a BE gig in a Pretty Green parka with a Liam 90s haircut" Did anyone see this in action at the Beady Eye McCluskys gig in Kingston in 2013? The place was full of them from every Liam look from 94 onwards. I was absolutely cracking up! Liam must have been looking at the crowd thinking he was going through an identity crisis.

I've got the pleasure of going to see Ocean Colour Scene tomorrow night (wife loves them for some reason). Looking forward to seeing a few Liams as OCS usually bring them out the woodwork.

RIVERMAN... love this song, its like broken arrows older more traveled cousin. beautifully put together. stood out on first listen. love the lyrics especially the second verse, genius. 9.5/10 IN THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT... its a fun catchy song, not a masterpiece or anything but its what ya want in a catchy tune, big chorus to sing along to and a good groove. and all the hate with the na na na's.. plenty of good songs have them, have a nice day? all around the world??.. 8/10 THE GIRL WITH THE X-RAY EYES... its a grower for me, wasnt sure when i first heard it, i dont know why i like it really but i do, i prefer the verses to the chorus. its a good song though 7/10 LOCK THE DOORS.... can tell from the first wail of a guitar that its from the deffo maybe era, probably why i expect liam to start singing, would be right up his ally.. missed the guitar solos inn the last album, glad to see them back here.. great rocker 8.5/10 DYING OF THE LIGHT... its the type of song thats noels trade mark by now, its this albums if i had a gun or wonderwall.. the bus fare lyric i wish he had of changed, multi millionaire like ha.. im sure he could have found a different way for failing to "get there" but thats my only complaint, another great tune 9/10 THE RIGHT STUFF.... its certainly different, almost soothing somehow, i like that its not in his usual comfort zone, love the guitars at the end. find myself humming this tune quite a bit, another great song 8/10 WHILE THE SONGS REMAIN THE SAME... taking it up a notch or two from the right stuff but still in that same type of song, a surprisingly good song, more handy guitar solos.. 8/10 THE MEXICAN... the starting riff reminds me of paulo nutinis song fashion off his latest album, dunno if anyone else got that. agian its something different from the chief, reading through the reviews and it seems to get the most hate, but then again those same people hate it when he stays in his comfort zone.. cant please some people ha. i find it a great funky song that picks ya up from the bluesy soothing mood. 8/10 YOU KNOW WE CANT GO BACK... we've picked it right up again now, punch the air kind of rocker, can see liam on this one as well.. another song has grown on me, its more of the oasis formula with the rocker and another guitar solo 9/10 THE BALLAD OF THE MIGHTY I... love it, lyrics, the dance driven riff, brilliant stuff.. ive loved it from day one as a closer it kind of leaves you wanting more, better than being glad its over i suppose ha.. 9.5/10 i loved the first album but i have to say nearly all the songs were of the same formula, just pop rock songs with no solos bar the odd track or two.. i had that album as 8.6/10 and i have this as a 8.45/10.. i love that hes fell back in love with writing guitar solos on this album...so its another great album from Noel in my opinion and these new songs will probably get better for me with more listens. by the way i would probably have do the damage on there somewhere as id rate it at 8/10

I remember some of Mark Coyle's comments almost a year ago now.
"Noel's new album is fucking great"
"That boy is from a different planet, and even the fans won't believe how utterly amazing it is"
"The new record will be seismic. It's so explosive that, on the day it comes out, Virgin Trains won’t be able to cope with all the people trying to flee the chaos"
The last quote describes exactly this forum on leak day.
It seems he was right about the other things as well. I was sure it was all hype when he compared another Oasis related album to Definitely Maybe.

It seems he was right about the other things as well. I was sure it was all hype when he compared another Oasis related album to Definitely Maybe. I was trying to find the corresponding Noel interview but couldn't. Anyway, all of those Mark Coyle quotes (from February 2014 if I remember right) were intentionally provoked by Noel. Coyle had been visiting the recording sessions for Chasing Yesterday, while he was promoting the reissue of Definitely Maybe (because hands down, without Mark Coyle there wouldn't have been any bonus tracks to include), and he was instructed by Noel to tell the press what you've quoted basically. It's just old mates playing an inside joke, even though some of it turned out to be true (e.g. that it's great).
