This album has the best production i have ever heard in an oasis related release. It is colourful and vibrant and IF OASIS HAD A SIMILARLY POLISHED PRODUCTION THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN TWICE AS BIG WORLDWIDE for sure.
The vocals blend with the music is perfect and not distracting LIKE ON OASIS AND BEADY EYE ALBUMS which destroys the atmosphere on many amazing tunes, throughout their career.
But the real dissapointment is the lack of GREAT, IMMEDIATE MELODIES like the ones from the 94-97 period.
The tunes are ok overall, but NEVER GREAT OR ORIGINAL like for instance Idler's dream,The importance of being idle,Champagne supernova and Some might say.
It is very simple. If these new songs had the overblown and annoying production of the Be here now songs, nobody would gibve them a second listen ,because the tunes are not strong enough.
I have heard the album once, but a great song shines through on only one hearing, with crappy production,whatever....
This a 7/10 album at best, which is pretty good for this shitty era in music, but it is slightly dissaopointing for Gallagher's talent at creating instant wistful songs.

How are Riverman,Lock All The Doors,The Girl With The X-Ray Eyes,TDOTL weak melodically speaking? Riverman's chorus might be one of Noel best choruses

Is there a reason that you think that you deserve your own thread for your opinion?
Too important a person to post in an existing thread of people rating the album?

Clearly I'm in the minority but his vocal is BURIED in this album. Muffled, Muddy, hard to make out.
Love the instrumentation, the guitar, and drum mixing. . . but his vocal is much quieter and muddier than all of that.
The songs are amazing. I'm thrilled - but his vocal needed turned up 10dB

Nope. The only song with buried vocals is Lock All The Doors. In the rest the vocals are just right.

This album is about the grooves, not the melodies.
In Chasing Yesterday, Noel Gallagher paradoxically leaves behind yesterday's rock stadium pretentions and sticks to poprock lighweight melodies that seat over very well built grooves. So yes, we have a very good produced album.
He also leaves behind yesterday's rocknroll aggressivity: Melodies here are carefree, lightweight, feelgood, maybe mysterious, but not pretentious at all. They aren't intended to invent the wheel, nor are anthemic in the oasisesque sense, but they don't dissappoint.
The real thing here are the grooves and the more dynamic percussion. Unlike the 1st album (which was dull, monochromatic and boring in drums), Chasing Yesterday has a whole ecosystem of sounds, colors and elements arranged in psychedelic key that you can discover and rediscover with each listen. There's diversity in here. Noel Gallagher achieves something amazing: We've got an album easy to listen to, that just won't wear off, because it has enough depth and is rich enough in sounds to draw you to another listen. In other words, songs aren't huge, but somehow you get lost on them easily. As though they were small jungles.
(this is how i reviewed the album at rateyourmusic site)

The gist of all spyrosfab posts:
"I'M NOT GIVING MY OPINION, I AM TELLING YOU TO THINK IT IS SHIT. I'M RIGHT AND YOU'RE WRONG AND THERES NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT."

The Dying of Light is a melodic gem all the way. Same goes for Riverman, While the Song Stays the Same, and basically all the songs apart from The Mexican which i don't like all
