Does anyone else think the lyrics are clearly aiming at Liam?
"I won't let your smile
Get lost in the fall
I won't let your dreams
Run away in the dark
Still recall the way you were
And that look in your eyes
Still recall the way you were
And that look in your eyes
Can't hear the sound
A thought ringing in my ear
I still feel the pain
I carried with me for years
Still recall the way you were
And that look in your eyes
Still recall the way you were
And that look in your eyes
You could leave when the walls fall down
I can tell by the look in your eyes
You're alone on the rope
And if you can't find no hope
Don't look down
Don't look down "
Especially this part: 'Can't hear the sound , a thought ringing in my ear . I still feel the pain , I carried with me for years .'

I must be crazy then But Noel has said over the years that he can't write about something that isn't going on at present time. Like, he can't write about being unemployed when he has a job. So I don't see where this is from. Beautiful song by the way.

Btw AOTR is definitely one of Noel's best songs lyrically

The only song I know of being likely being about Liam is 'Is That A Fact?' Get your magnifying glasses out, I'm too busy to transcribe:

NOPE!
(But "Agadoo" by Black Lace is about Liam. 100%. My source from Ignition claims that Noel went back in time and gave them this song.)

You're right, because every Noel song is about Liam.
It's funny how people will try to make every Noel song about Liam, no matter how ridiculous yet they refuse to admit that a song called "Don't Brother Me" is about Noel.

No way are his songs about Liam - his brother isn't the be all and end all in his life like Oasis obsessives think! I don't think he's that emotionally invested to write about Liam and splitting from the band. After all, it's only a rift, nothing serious that will inspire songwriting.
And for such an emotional song like Alone on the Rope to be about Liam, fuck that would be disturbing.
It's very ambiguous - 'pain I've carried with me for years' may refer to his upbringing under an abusive father, 'won't let your smile get lost in the fall' might refer to a defiant support for his mother in such domestic troubles, 'and if you can't find no hope, don't look down' reflecting the usual Noel stoicism during tough times.
THAT'S a far better interpretation of the song. Perhaps it's just too personal a song to Noel to release on record - he did say after all that if his lyrics get too personal he will change it, and he does seem uncomfortable with the idea of 'autobiographical' songs. I don't thing he need anything to worry about considering arguably some of his greatest songs are his most personal - Gas Panic, Rockin Chair, Cast No Shadow (let's be honest, he's writing about himself here) and Alone on the Rope. His critics slate his songs for being populist and therefore meaningless, but if they cared to look closer, there are many many hidden gems to suggest a much more thoughtful and contemplative songwriter with much depth there.
Whatever the case, it's a really really great tune.

Noel simply doesn't write songs about Liam, and he certainly won't do it in his solo carreer.

Especially this part: 'Can't hear the sound , a thought ringing in my ear . I still feel the pain , I carried with me for years .'I think this is more about his problems with tinnitus.

never ever thought it was about Liam & still don't. I bet its not about anyone or anything besides just words to fit the feeling of the music.

I don't really think every song Noel writes is about Liam. I just thought this one had references to him. I don't think it's insulting either. Why so sensitive?
