My girlfriend is adamant that he likes them, because of the hacienda days and his new stuff, but Ive never seen him talking about them - which could mean he likes them, mind. Does anyone know if hes mentioned them, ever?

Good point. He has mentioning learning to play the guitar while playing along to Joy Division bass lines (didn't prevent Liam from heavily insulting Peter Hook during Oasis' first radio session in 1993, which Hooky was co-hosting). But I've never read any references to New Order from Noel whatsoever. I dearly love them, especially their output from 1981 to '89, there's so many great things about them, don't even know where to start listing them.

I remember he mentioned them in some interview when he was asked about Manchester's music history. Pretty sure he was positive about them.

Didnt know about that... What did Liam say? You can listen to it on the full session bootleg (including in between songs banter) that joakim shared only recently. It's gotta be somewhere to detect either in the Sound & Vision section or on Jim's fantastic blog. I'm sorta handicapped right now in terms of linking, as I'm limited to my mobile. Anyway, that encounter was first described in Paolo Hewitt's first book on Oasis, Getting High, I just remember that Liam (Noel might have been involved too) made a macabre reference to someone famous who had just died and that his body wouldn't smell as bad as Hooky's infamous leather trousers. Something along the lines if that. I'm sure someone else is able to provide more info however!

I can't see a well rounded music fan, such as himself, not liking New Order. What's not to like?

Several people commented when New Order released Singles. Warner Music Japan site wmg.jp/artist/neworder/news_2472.html"The Smiths and New Order made foundation for The Stone Roses, and The Stone Roses made foundation for Oasis. If New Order did not exist, there was no The Haçienda. And it goes without saying if The Haçienda did not exist. The music scene in Manchester couldn't exist as itself without them."Noel Gallagher – Oasis And if I remember correct,,, Noel was Interviewed in a Japanese magazine, and talked about his clubbing life in his early days, and mentioned New Order song, maybe which is Everything's Gone Green or Procession.... Substance is one of my favorite records
