Thought the fella with the black guitar case lying on the ground that Noel stops by was Johnny Marr.

I think it's absolutely stunning. ITHOTM grew on me, but this was love at first listen.
For anyone outside the UK - Shoes hung over cables above a road indicates that drugs are for sale there...

Thought the fella with the black guitar case lying on the ground that Noel stops by was Johnny Marr. He looks a bit like him (maybe it was done on purpose!) but he's our fellow member dreamweaver

I can understand why some people don't like this song. It's very different. But give it a chance. Especially Johnny M's solo. The first time I heard it, I was like "that's it". But it and the rest of his work is subtly brilliant. This, its definitely a grower!

Loved it immediately. The melody and "non chorus" chorus has been stuck in my head since I've heard it.

Finally I managed to watch the video, and even that they managed to get right this time. I love how they make fun of Noel hating videos and being grumpy. And the red pants and the strat... we're living in the future!
And after many more listens, I think this song blows everything from the first album out of the water, as much as I liked it. Except maybe for TDOYAM, which is the only solo Noel song I ever got this excited about.

But it and the rest of his work is subtly brilliant. Funny coz i think this song dont sound different at all. You can hear stuff like that every day by indie bands from today. Not exactly the same, but Noel's clearly following the "music fashion". Noel different would have been the AA, or Teotihuacan, or Alone on the rope. NOW that was different and clever. I cant seem to feel it as bland and uninspired. Maybe with time...

What's so "different" about Alone On The Rope?

T'is a grower I'd say a 7/8 out of 10 tune for me, just like ITHOTM. Enjoy the tune and the video's bloody brilliant, but I can't shake off just a twinge of disappointment
The bass line and bits of piano are great, Johnny's guitar is right on the money of course and the quieter bits à la the original 20 seconds we heard, are lovely.
Just one snag for me and that is, yet again, the abysmal drumming of Jeremy "Blubbernaut" Stacey...
*thud thud thud*
I don't care what anyone says, he's got no class or style to speak of and he seems utterly incapable of varying it up at all to set up a chorus or shift in the music (granted the structure of this tune is hard to put your finger on)
Maybe a slight qualm about Noely's production, but I'll wait to hear the actual record first rather than a compressed YouTube video
Overall though, a pretty good tune, and one that trumps the second single from the last album all ends up, as far as I'm concerned

What's so "different" about Alone On The Rope? what ? It's clearly different from the rest of Noel's repertoire. Not out there, but something definitely not Oasis.

I clearly said the song isn't different from the music other people make. Not the music he used to make. that's it.

When Noel goes completely grey he will be Father Ted.

I like the song, don't love it; it's interesting....I didn't like 'ITHOTM' that much at first but it grew on me, this song will probably do the same. Good vocals.
God bless.

Question: what did they actually needed all the guys that "look a bit like Noel" for? Didn't see any of them back in the video. In my head I had an image of a hundred Noels walking around.

Haha hundred of Noels, just like these agents in Matrix. I think they just thought this idea was stupid and filmed just one Noel walking around instead.
