Starting to think I have heard a totally different song...what's redeeming about the song? The intro is basically Mucky Fingers-esq...the chorus is unable to be made out, can't even hear Noel and that's hearing it on the telly rather than the laptop...it's just awful

Sounds like a b-side to me and no, it isn't the 23rd best song Noely's ever written, but all the same I do (currently on my initial few listens) quite like it. Boring drum pattern, but lots of cool sounds in there just like In The Heat Of The Moment, and the sax works a treat.
6/7 out of 10 for me

Think I'm the only one who doesn't like this? Doesn't sound very inspired. Your not...I won't ever be listening to it again Now now, give it a bit of time at least...

"There's gold in the city" - anyone else notice that it's basically just the same melody as the ITHOTM chorus?

Ok, so, I like it. But:
a) intro is too long, imho. And the song, in general, too short. I would have liked to listen a good solo b) I don't like the drums. I need more cymbals, if you know what i mean. c) I don't like the effects on the last part of the song, over produced, particularly the voice
Sax solos are fuckin* great.
Still better than In the heat of the moment. I'm listening to it now and I find it boring after Do the Damage

Been looking forward to this since we heard the little "Maaaybeee!!" snippet in the Making of HFB1 and I'm liking it a lot! The saxophone parts are definitely an icing of the cake as well. Catchy!
Been trying to work out the lyrics. Anyone who can figure out the first line in the chorus? "I did not bother flying..."?

A good song... reminds me a bit of the heavier SOTSOG-era tracks.
Anyone else notice that a bit of this has practically the same melody and lyrics as It's Gettin' Better (Man!!) ?
DTD: "Maybe the dream that we had is gone" IGBM: "Maybe the dreams that we dream are gone"

The sax remind anyone else of the Put Yer Money Where Yer Mouth Is bassline?

I like it, though it's definitely a b-side. Just like I thought from the preview clip, barely any change-up other than the sax solo. Sounds underdeveloped, even with all the production it's still just the first half repeating for a second half. Much prefer In the Heat of the Moment. I don't know if there is a song on HFB's I would replaced for this, possibly DO or SB&JF, but that's really about it.
However, I am encouraged that through two songs there has already more variation and color than on any track on HFB's other than WAL and TDOYAM probably.
In the end, it's strong for a b-side, but would be weak as an album track. Noel made the right decision putting In the Heat of the Moment on over Do the Damage.

"I did not bother flying..."? yeah, this has to be the most trouble ive ever had with any of noels lyrics. ive mixed up a few before (e.g. but you and i will never die in champagne supernova) but i cant even get close to chorus on this one...

The sax remind anyone else of the Put Yer Money Where Yer Mouth Is bassline? Parts of this song keep reminding of the National Anthem by Radiohead, but that's probably just a combination of the random background samples and the sax more than the actual song.

It's screaming for a nice solo/instrumental break in the middle.

Excellent bside. There's really only one issue with the song, the lyrics in the chorus are near incomprehensible.

Since I know Noel is Dyslexic I know he confused the A-side with the B-side.....again!
I'll always prefer an upbeat menancing tune like this one.
Nice one! this is a song for the fans.

There's gold in the city And never quite enough not to pay the rent You could had it all But the pity is everything you're gonna need is heaven sent
Maybe the dream that we had is gone People ride in like a setting sun They're digging you up when they're knocking you don't But they can't stop me from loving you.
Do wanna wanna fly or dig off lullaby (this line is the hardest one for me, pretty sure I'm completely wrong on it) You do the damage kid This love is not a song about sole handed traveler You do the damage kid
Like a stone I was falling Will anybody come get me out of here I waiting in the rain for the calling Will anybody come get me out of here
Maybe the dream that we had is gone People ride in like a setting sun They're digging you up when they're knocking you don't But they can't stop me from loving you.
Do wanna wanna fly or dig off a lullaby You do the damage kid This love is not a song about sole handed traveler You do the damage kid
Do wanna wanna fly or deal off a lullaby You do the damage kid This love is not a song about sole handed traveler You do the damage kid

There's some female backing vocals in the chorus for sure making it hard to understand IMO.

Some corrections (not in the chorus which I can't, for the life of me, figure out)
