Have a listen the early songs by Oasis (I mean Noel) and The Smiths, for example "Still Ill" by The Smiths and "I Will Show You" by Oasis and more. Personally I think it's great to hear Johnny's influence in Noel.

I love Oasis, but they arent shameful about nicking. Also speaking about Greenday thay rip off people as much as Oasis actually they both pinch from the same band. Check out the Kinks, guys. Greenday blatanly rips off another guitar/chord sequence w/ their song "Warning," It is exactly the same as The Kinks "Picture Book." Oasis is not as obivious, but being a songwriter I'm pretty sensitive to melody, check out The Kinks "Wonderboy" there's a bit in the middle eight that sounds strikingly familiar to Oasis "She's Electric." Being big fans of both bands I see it is homage. All rock n roll is throwing your fav records in a pot, stir, and serve. People shouldnt overthink it. No thought comes without influence.

It's pointless to go over this list. I quite enjoy that he makes his influences known. That's better than hiding them. Especially now that almost anything you do can be traced to someone else's work.
Noel puts stuff together that is original, but he just borrows from other people. it's just like the DM DVD..... watch that part.

I wouldn't say they ripped it off but to me sometimes "Up In The Sky" sounds like "Rain" by the Beatles....
"Can you feel me..." sounding like "Let the rain come..."
