Oh god, I've booked my flights back home for Christmas for the 16th December last week.
Bloody typical. What terrible timing.

I'm terryble sorry to hear that, matt. I really hope you'll be able to see them again sometime very soon.
I just bought my ticket for Utrecht. Saw them in the same venue last time too. I'm not sure if I can make Paradiso too as it starts late (9:30 PM)
They're currently touring in the US with their pal We Were Promised Jetpacks. If you like their music and if you have got a chance, please go to see them live. They're a great great band.

I've seen them something like 6 times now (all in NYC). One of the best live acts going and the new album is probably their best to date. Just go. Even if you've never heard a note.

I got that acoustic version of Last January when I bought my ticket for their Utrecht gig next March. It's brilliant. I bought their EP "Killed My Parents and Hit The Road" at my first ever Sad's gig in Paradiso in 2009 and I still love it so much.
Great thing of them is they can be really really loud at gig, but at the same time, they're fantastic as acoustic as well.
Fantastic band which more to deserve than what they got!

Fantastic and well deserved, my favourite album of the year too!
I wouldn't be surprised in years to come when assessing all their albums and this one is seen as their 'magnum opus' as critics like to say. I've digested this over a couple of months and I can confidently say its my favourite of theirs. It's like an amalgamation of everything great they've ever done. I love this band so much - there's that melancholic Scottish folkiness (likewise with many Scots bands) you hear in their acoustic gigs which gives you a completely different and mellow take on the tunes, but the layers of gritty and dark sounds added in the full band versions completely blow you away with its sheer anger and they are not inserted gratuitously to cover up the shortcomings of an actual tune.
I've always been suspicious of bands who make dense music in a bid to sound interesting and enigmatic but strip it back and it is just complete rubbish (this is a major problem for most electronic hipster bands...) but the fact you hear the raw emotions in the Sad's music in acoustic and electric form is proof that this band is one of the highest quality.

I haven't been to Glasgow for ages since my teenage days, so the city must have been changed a lot. Yet I still remember the darkness. We were planning to go to Edinburgh first, but by taking a wrong train, we arrived Glasgow. I certainly would love to visit Monorail when I'm there again.

There's still many pockets in the city that are quite poor and bleak sadly, but from what I've heard, it has changed over the last 20-30 years. I can only take others accounts of it having only lived here over a year, but its a city that seems to be on the up - its a hotbed of culture, with great music venues, bands, record stores, art galleries, theatres, etc.

Past years I haven't been further up to North than Manchester, but really should visit Scotland again in the near future. Thanks matt for replying in this thread. To talk about good music on here is something I need the most right now instead of playpenning posts/threads.

Another thing with Glasgow is the social scene is decent in that there are quality clubs and tiny venues that many unsigned acts play, I've been here a year and I already know guys who are in local bands. When I lived in Aberdeen, it was a complete vacuous hole of talent - there were no indie clubs - just terrible dubstep music played in the club, and the venues are unknown because I didn't know of ANY local band in Aberdeen. The difference in culture is stark when you live in a place where not much happens and then one where it is thriving.

I remember I was impressed the differences between the 2 cities - Edinburgh and Glasgow. To me these 2 cities are very unccomoon to each other and I think you can clearly hear in the music. If the Sads were from Edinburgh, their music wouldn't have been same as it is. To be honest, I loved Edinburgh much more than Glasgow, but I only spent a very short time in Glasgow. James Graham and Scot Hutchinson (Frightened Rabbit) are one of the greatest song writers in this modern music history.

Top tune, wonder why it didn't make the album? That said, it's always great to see bands release singles that aren't on albums, just like how all he great bands used to do.

Remember "The Wrong Car", matt? It wasn't on their 3rd album. They said it doesn't fit other songs on the album and I do agree with that. Their 3rd album "Forget Night Ahead" was very very dark and heavy. Also "Never Tear Us Apart" was from the same era, but didn't make the album either.

I think The Wrong Car is more similar to the second album than the third - the third one for me sticks out as their most distinctive record, in mood and sound. Not necessarily their best as I honestly think the new one is that, but I see your point about those songs not being on the third one.
