I hope you all read this because there are a few points I wish to make and this album is the best way to get them off my chest.
Don't Believe The Truth is WITHOUT DOUBT Oasis's third best album. Easily. I think Noel is at his most inspired here and it really shows in songs like Part Of The Queue - written whilst queueing for shopping (well, mostly... it's a nice story, though) and The Importance Of Being Idle (written about being lazy). I think it's his best work as a songwriter in Oasis since MG. The archetypical stomping Oasis track, Lyla, is great... a massive crowd pleaser that is catchy, has cool, easy guitars and doesn't sound forced in any way. All of Noel's vocals are phenomenal and Liam's are just great.
BASICALLY every track on this album is a 7-8/10 for me. TIOBI is actually my favourite Oasis song. Lyla, as I've said, is great. Mucky Fingers is a fantastic tune, Abel is fantastic and really quite moving, especially as Liam has written it, what with the connotations. Meaning of Soul is awesome, also. It gets A LOT of flack on this forum and I really don't know why. It's a fun tune and, taken at face-value (a rant from Liam), it really cannot be bettered. It goes down amazingly live...especially after C&A. Turn Up The Sun is a very cool song and, arguably, the only 'Oasis' song that Andy ever wrote. Liam's vocals are amazing and Noel's backing vocals are even better. It is one of my favourite songs that Oasis mk. II ever released and it really has a special charm to it.
Let There Be Love has been discussed a fair bit recently, and the general consensus is that it could have been done better. I agree. It is a lovely song and probably should have been released a bit earlier. BUT, it's still a lovely little song and is not found out-of-place on the album. Liam's vocals probably could have been touched up a bit, but Noel's bridge is great and gee's the song up, to no end.
This is where it gets tricky.
I love Gem. I think he's great. But I think that it is his input to this album that takes it from being good (with some people even arguing about that) to being great. A Bell Will Ring is, in my opinion, terrible. It's got nothing about it. It is a perfectly good melody and the playing on it is great, but the lyrics (and the singing) are terrible. If they wanted a Gem rocker on the album then they probably should have gone with Eyeball Tickler as it fits a bit better, in my eyes (no pun intended). The other one is Keep The Dream Alive. I change my mind about this tune on the regular, as I write this... I can't stand it. It's too arty farty for an Oasis track. That might just be that I don't like Andy, but who knows. the other track that lets it down it Love Like A Bomb. Just pointless filler, really, when they had better tracks to substitute it with.
Replace Keep the Dream Alive with a like-for-like reflective song like Sitting Here In Silence On My Own, A Bell Will Ring with Eyeball Ticker and Love Like A Bomb with Pass Me Down The Wine or even keep it in there as the weakest track and you have an infinitely better album.
This album is great. I think their new slide into democracy harshly lets them down, here. Giving FOUR songs to Andy and Gem was a colossal error on Noel's part and it really affected the albums success. Like I say, though. The album is the only time they came close to touching Morning Glory and Definitely Maybe, in terms of overall quality.
Hopefully you've made it this far. I feel very strongly about this album...as you can probably tell haha. I really hope you all get involved and give me your opinions!

I'd put it 4 ,I still give a slight edge to SOTSOG. Very slight can go either Way. far superior to DOYS no matter what some say imo

DBTT is the album I listen to the least of any of them. Almost all the songs are meh to me. I like Let There be Love, POTQ and TUTS and am alright with Lyla and GGTIA. The rest are nothing special to me, and Mucky Fingers is my least favorite song in the Oasis catalog. It's an instant skip every time.

It's a fine album but nowhere near BHN. Yes BHN is bloated but the songs are among the best Noel has ever written. The only song on DBTT that I would consider a classic Is TIOBI.

It's a very solid album overall, but there are some little problems here and there which annoys me, like some underproduced songs, some bad Liam singing and also some of the songs shouldn't have been on there, but in the end DBTT is a very consistent work from the band.

I love TIOBI, Lyla, POTQ and LTBL. The rest is okay or just bad. It's not a bad album, but overall I just like DOYS better. Plus Liam's vocals on some songs are a bit fucked up, like on Love Like A Bomb. He sounds like Billy Corgan!

Their most consistent album since MG, that's for damn sure.
I do, however, like LLAB - especially when the piano kicks in. Beautiful.
KTDA should/could have been the "Stand By Me" of the album. They missed a trick there. Just fell short.
LTBL should have had epic production, but Noel chose otherwise.
And Eyeball Tickler wasn't on the album because it was between that and Lyla, if I recall correctly.
Oh, and yes, ABWR is utter shite.
But over all, a very good album. But Be Here Now is more fun due to it's ridiculousness.
Walk on.

It's a great album but I think we all sub-consciously appreciate more given the drivel from SOTSOG and HC before it, and as much as this is a proper journo cliche, it was a "return to form" if you will. I'd put it 4th narrowly behind BHN.

Exactly. The singles are great and there are a couple of good album tracks (Turn Up The Sun and Part Of The Queue) but also a lot of filler. An improvement from Heathen Chemistry but it's really let down by bland production and generally poor writing from LAG - it's the only album where Noel's written less than half of the songs.

It inspires simply no emotion from me - not even the dread and anger caused by HC is present here. In my mind it is the very definition of mediocre and I personally consider both DOYS and SOTSOG to be vastly superior.
