Whilst looking for a certain book by Till Lindemann, I found out he has Social Anxiety disorder, which could explain why he keeps looking everywhere but the crowd in some live videos (I have some symptoms myself). Who else can you think of who has a mental illness?

Have you noticed Liam Gallagher? -- "He's a singer, a songwriter, the reincarnation of John Lennon - if John Lennon had Tourette's" (Jimmy Carr)

Jeez, this place needs some educating. Syd Barrett Peter Green Skip Spence Roky Erikson The guy in Manic Street Preachers who offed himself Kurt Cobain Ian Curtis Brian Wilson Sly Stone ......the list goes on and on.......it includes me here's the proof: Good list , count me as well , but Syd was not mental really , more drugs fried him until acid he was quite normal , I sorta differentiate between Cobain and legit depression , and Barrett who fried his brain on acid , according to roger and everyone else he was quite lucid and artistic until the acid

Mind you im not saying Syd was conventional by any stretch but the drugs put his mental instability over the top , the scyho stuff and all who knows how long he woulda stayed sane maybe forever , maybe not , but drugs was more the issue imo

That song & video in Kalas's post are the bomb! Who needs those idiot Gallagher twits when you have quality shit like this running loose on these threads? Bill O'Reilly's face is a bit of unfortunate news though. Thst must be courtesy of Let It🩸 I have no clue how to post videos as most know , how he does that is beyond me

Most who were around in them days will tell you Syd was a bit weird even before the acid and possibly an undiagnosed schizophrenic. In the end I'll include him cuz he was the greatest nutter of them all. What was the deal with Barrett anyway ? I heard doctors diagnosed his brain being totally destroyed due to drug using, but then again he didn't commite suicide or anything he lived until 2006. What was he doing through all these years, why couldn't he play with Floyds anymore ? I watched like 3 films about him but they never say nothing except drugs are bad blablabla politicaly correct nonsense.

Too many to list. Can only imagine the number of musicians that are undiagnosed. Or how many have them because of drug use. Great art can come from struggle but life is precious and mental illness is no joke.

What was he doing through all these years, why couldn't he play with Floyds anymore ? I watched like 3 films about him but they never say nothing except drugs are bad blablabla politicaly correct nonsense. After he pretty much got fired from his own group because his behaviour became so erratic (de-tuning his guitar so it sound unlistenable, staring into space instead of singing etc) he pretty much became a recluse, living with his sister I believe. Despite showing glimpses of his early Floyd genius, his two solo albums (both with contributions from Waters and Gilmour which shows they really wanted to help their old friend) showcased just how 'mad' he'd become and how incapable he was of producing coherent music again. For all Syd's whimsical vision, what made his early success was his ability to write great pop songs 'See Emily Play' 'Arnold Layne' etc, the solo albums were just odd without the charm. By 1969 Floyd had all but moved on from the Barratt era and the music they were producing even a fully functioning Barratt wouldn't have been able to contribute much to, let alone the reclusive, degenerative form he'd become. I liked how the band, despite how big they became, never forgot their old leader whether that'd be musically (Shine On..) or royalty wise (making sure that a Barrett song was included on a live album/best of, despite having ample songs of their own) The image of him visiting the studio whilst the band were recording Wish You Were Here is one of the most haunting, shocking images you'll see, especially when you compare it to 7 years earlier

We're all fuckin insane. Dropped in the middle of unlimited outter space stuck on some funny little ball, 100 000s years still no one have a clue what we're doing here, we try to creates laws, religions, explore to explain but still fighting each other over the same old piece of ground, living in even more chaotic world every year.

Drugs really stimulate those diseases. Syd Barrett was paranoid schizophrenic. He lived with his mom as a recluse and apparently loved gardening and painting

Syd was always the most creatitice according to roger who knew him best , again , I don't disagree , but. His drug use made him more paranoid scyho imo still a whacko , no argument

For those who haven't already seen, I though it was worth posting what 'betherenow' was referring too: Syd Barrett - 1969: Syd Barrett - 1975: This is the photo of him at Abbey Road Studios. 7 years after being kicked out of the band he mysteriously showed up to the recording of Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here' to offer his services to the band. He showed up when the band was mixing 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' and went unrecognised for some time. Upon realisation who he was there was much shock and tears. He talked with the band but wasn't 'all there'. Whilst listening to 'Shine On...' he apparently was unable to connect how it was about his plight. He later disappeared without a goodbye. He was last seen by Roger Waters buying sweets in Harrods some years later but upon being spotted he dropped the bag and ran out. A very sad story. On a happier note, apparently the last thing he wrote for Pink Floyd was 'Have You Got It Yet?' A song where upon teaching it to his band mates he repeatedly changed the chords and melody to the tune. When singing "Have You Got It Yet?" the band replied "No! No!" He was basically having the band on with this impossible song. Genius. He was fired soon after, ha.

I thought he had to quit the band to stay away from drugs and rehab kinda like Dave Mustain, get a new start and all.

He became a recluse and I think he lived with his sister for a long time. He released 2 solo albums after Pink Floyd but that was it. He never quit the band, instead the band decided one day that they had had enough of his weird antics and decided not to pick him up in the car. I presume he was told soon after. They always tried to support him after and there never seemed to be any bad blood about it.
