Let me tell you all about a new venture I started. One of my favorite things to do is watch travel shows on TV. A particular favorite is Rick Steves on PBS. I was watching an episode about Austria. Throughout his segments on Vienna, a city known worldwide for its music, he showed musicians playing and dancers dancing, but never once told you where to see them perform. This irked me a bit. So I looked online and saw that no other travel show or guide really featured in-depth information on where to see live music. Sure, a travel guide might feature the O2 or the Albert Hall for a city like London, but they rarely ever showed the cool jazz club or the local bars where the up-and-comers would play. So I decided to fill the void. I started Empire State of Live, a site dedicated to finding the best places to see live music in the New York City area. No place is too big or too small, and I aim to give you everything you need to know—is there's a cover charge? Is it 21 and up? Is there food (and if so, what should you get)? What type of crowd goes there—are they hipsters, metalheads, older folk, etc.? Who plays there, and who has played there? So please check it out, give it a follow and tell me what you think. Any comments, whether positive or negative, are always encouraged and appreciated. The links are below. Empire State of LiveSocial media: Facebook / Twitter / InstagramThanks!

This is pretty cool, NYR! I've never been to the United States, but would love to visit New York and Boston someday. New York has got a great history of great venue's, starting with GBCB.
In Holland we don't have many huge beautiful venue's what the UK have like Roundhouse, Koko and the Royal Albert Hall, but one thin we can very proud of is Paradiso. My most favourite venue.

Thanks Mimmi! When you do come to NYC, let me know—I'll be happy to show you around. Unfortunately, though, CBGB closed in 2006. There are still plenty of places to see live music in NYC, which is why I made the site. The Paradiso looks gorgeous! I would absolutely love to visit Amsterdam and see a gig there! (Don't you guys also have the Heineken Music Hall and the Concertgebouw?)

(Don't you guys also have the Heineken Music Hall and the Concertgebouw?) Thanks for your kind offer, NYR. You're always welcome to Amsterdam too. Yes, we have Heineken Music Hall where I saw Oasis 3 times and Beaey Eye. Concert Gebouw and Carre (theatre) are beautiful. We also have Melkweg (it means "milkyway) which is just 5 minutes walk from Paradiso and where Noel played in 2011. Paradiso used to be a church and they don't have a barrier which is great. (they did have a barrier for Beady Eye and Kasabian) My friend used to live in New York for a couple of years. She worked as a hair dresser and loved to live in New York. I should have visited her when she lived there!

Thanks matt and eva! And mimmihopps, I am this close to getting on a plane to Amsterdam RIGHT NOW! It's one of the few cities that I haven't been to that I've been dying to visit, actually! Carl said DEFINATLY check. Covered that one a week and a half ago. I usually play there once a month, so I'm very familiar with the bar. Thanks for the heads up, though!

]Cool!! I'll have more nxt wk. hey is Kenny castaways still around. They always had great bands. The smithereens got there break there. It was in villiage Unfortunately, it closed two years ago. Funnily enough, I wrote about Kenny's too. (If you've ever been on social media, you've surely seen "Throwback Thursday" posts, where people share old pictures. For my site, each Thursday I write about venues in the NYC area that have since closed down. So far, I've written about Kenny's Castaways, My Father's Place, and the Roseland Ballroom.) The location is now a gastropub called Carroll Place.
