I heard that interview, he just said that they were going to be working hard on lp9 this autumn - he did not give any deadlines when asked. Going obsessively over possible lp9 tracks again (knowing we'll probably hear them in 10 years and sounding completely different) Identikit, Ful Stop, Cut a Hole and The Present Tense alone are enough to make any record decent - I want them to record these and put them in the midst of 6-7 great new tracks. I really hope this one isn't another borderline EP like everything Thom's been involved with since The King of Limbs, with 8 or 9 tracks. I would be so disappointed. Heard this cover of Cut a Hole and it really brings out how hauntingly sweet the chords are. That massive screaming chorus could be so triumphant and cinematic in a studio recording. Spectre Bond theme?

A new Radiohead album can't arrive soon enough. Radiohead are pants. How anyone can look forward to a Radiohead album is beyond me. Bunch of muppets, innit.

That's exactly the sort of stuff I had in mind when I said I wanted a big, cinematic record!! I'd love strings to be given prominence, Jonnys scores are always stunning, and these pictures - as well as the size of that orchestra - suggest they might play a more than passing part. Man...I'm too excited at just a picture of Thom and some violins. This is the first Radiohead record I will see released as a fan, so I'm completely hyped...when they actually announce it God knows what my reaction will be. Edit: One of the comments on the Consequence of Sound article is interesting; maybe this is the string arrangement in Lift?

I really love how Radiohead has used strings their career. Whether it be to simply add texture (Nice Dream, Fake Plastic Trees), make the song frightening (Climbing Up the Walls, Dollars and Cents), or to express pure bliss (How to Disappear Completely, Reckoner), they always add another dimension to their music. The strings at the end of Pyramid Song are so euphoric that it might just be my favorite moment in Radiohead.

Here is a new Thom Yorke song called "Villain" that is being used for New York Fashion Week. It's typically haunting effort.

I wouldn't expect a conventional release for this one, but just how they will release it will be interesting. I read an interview with Thom Yorke ages ago, but one thing stuck out for me when he said he wasn't too bothered about the physical format dying, which is a massive shame. More than 99% of bands I listen to, Radiohead's physical releases add to the mystique and intrigue of their music - you can literally devour the album artwork and wee little booklet that comes with each album through an entire sitting of listening to one of them. I've high hopes for this album but I hope they shift the emphasis away from the electronica of recent years. It's kind of been done to death with King of Limbs largely influenced by it and Tomorrow's Modern Boxes, to the point where it's not really that surprising. Seeing that picture of the orchestra has got me excited as mystoryisgory said, Radiohead do orchestral elements better than anyone - it just simmers under the music, threatening and brooding but never being excessive or over bearing like something Muse would do.

Let's be honest Hail To The Thief and In Rainbows were pretty straight forward for Radiohead. In Rainbows is the perfect blend of weird and commercial Radiohead is likely to attain at this point in their careers. King of Limbs was shorter and more electronic. They could go in any direction but I lean more like In Rainbows. As far as release strategy, I think Thom already gave it away last September for Tomorrow's Modern Boxes. That bit torrent idea.

If Radiohead physical releases die I will never forgive them. Stanley Donwood's artwork is so integral to Radiohead themselves that he's practically the 6th member of the baind (along with Nigel Godrich of course). Every single cover Donwood has done for them suits the music fantastically to the point that it's part of the music the same way the guitars and vocals are.

When I think of Radiohead I think mutated bears and haunted woods just as much as I do the music. Donwood really helps define each album and the band as a whole and happily I do think all Radiohead albums will get a physical release. I think what Thom is really against is CD's - which we won't get. I'm pretty sure we'll get one of those package dealys like In Rainbows or The King of Limbs. Also this isn't a Thom Yorke album, it's Radiohead. If the others want a physical release, we'll get one. I do think it'll be released online as a BitTorrent though.
