Toughie. On me third run-through now, but obviously, music produced in the way this has been only reveals its most tantalising secrets months, maybe years after you first hear it. So, going off what's really stuck out at this early stage: Decks Dark, Identikit, and Present Tense. I enjoy Burn the Witch too. What's yours? I'd go Present Tense, Decks Dark or The Numbers. Honestly though, with the exception of Desert Island Disk and TTSSPMRMBMT (both only 8/10), they're all in contention. There's lots of speculation on r/radiohead that this is their final album. I really hope not - but if it is, this would be a fitting way to go. I'm actually looking forward to hearing what Noel has to say on it And there it is! I was wondering who'd be the first to start scoring the song out of 10. It was fitting that it should be you I think, after the work you've put in over in the last few days. Now the question remains who will write out the first best-to-worst list of all the albums' tracks? As to it being their last, I don't think I can really say much about that, not really knowing that much about Radiohead, but I did see something from Nigel Godrich the other day, where he said something along the lines of "eventually, everything will get released" - meaning all the songs that have been aired live and whatnot. And there're still plenty of unreleased tracks floating about, aren't there?

Man, I haven't bought an album in years, but just snagged the 16 bit WAV edition off of Waste for $16. Screw it. Downloading now!

I was as surprised as you are, I'm sure. It was Glass Eyes and True Love Waits btw Well that makes one of us. "Working class northerners" doesn't exactly conjure up the same image as "unbearable bohemian artist types", eh? "Explains a lot, right?"

I'm going to have to buy this tomorrow - been busy and too late to fiddle around with everything, but, judging from the reaction and reviews, they've obviously been listening to my concerns with them over the last few years. So if you'd like to thank me, I would be grateful........ Hey, I'll have a present waiting for me when I get home from work tomorrow!

Just give the person you had in mind at first a Scouse accent and a cough from an old smoking addiction It's too late to wriggle out of this one matey! In my mind your mum wears a poncho and there's nothing you can do about it! *
Ha-ha! *And consider yourself lucky as that's significantly the most tasteful thing I've said about anyones mum ever!

That was a nice version of True Love Waits, but it's got nothing on the IMBW acoustic version!

So far, I'd rank the tracks like this: The Best:Daydreaming Decks Dark (OK Computer-like spacey vibe) Desert Island Disk (great acoustic track!) The Numbers (The strings!) Present Tense (In Rainbows-esque!) The Good:Burn The Witch Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor Rich Man Poor Man Beggar Man Thief (Hail to the Thief meets Amnesiac ) Glass Eyes Identikit (That solo!) True Love Waits (Sets a different tone completely) The Mediocre:Ful Stop (will take me awhile to get into this one) In album ranking:OK Computer In Rainbows Kid A Hail to the Thief The Bends A Moon Shaped Pool Amnesiac The King of Limbs Pablo Honey Great work guys!

Thom Yorke's hair is getting dangerously close to being a Terry Nutkins' skullet these days...

Tracks that hit me the most at the first listen:
Desert Island Disk The Numbers
I'm gonna give it a couple more spins later... but as a whole I can already say it's really, really good.

The Numbers reminds me of Mantra Slider by The Soundtrack Of Our Lifes. I can't get that thought out of my head.

The strings in Tinker Tailor Soldier etc remind me a lot of Bernard Herrmann's theme for Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo (especially from 1:05 onwards in the vid below). Great movie and soundtrack by the way.

You can feel the impact of Thom's split with Rachel Owens all over this album.....

Wonderful stuff. I won't try to rank the album like some people are doing since that takes months for me, but after four listens I just love it. It's hauntingly beautiful. Even Burn the Witch, which I dismissed as being a bit too conventional at first, has really grown on me and I think it's a great opener. You can hear the Steve Reich influence on this one. I'm particularly fond of the string arrangements and the use of the piano throughout the album. There are some great guitar touches too.

Stravinsky + Aphex Twin = Penderecki Er... I don't get how you came up with that recipe, but let's leave it at that since I don't want to derail the thread. just a joke because he is definitely more prog than Mozart. Penderecki and Aphex Twin are definitely connected with Radiohead. But you can't name Penderecki in the same ligue with Mozart. So I chose Stravinsky.

You can feel the impact of Thom's split with Rachel Owens all over this album..... The way he sings, "When I see you messing me around, I don't want to know" on Identikit, is heartbreaking.

I'm really loving the mood of the album.
Today is cloudy, dark and overcast and it fits perfectly.

The Guardian: 4/5 The Telegraph: 5/5 A major publication reviewing an album, particularly a Radiohead album, a few hours after it's released should be banned. At least give it a day or two.
