This could just be NME overpromising, but here goes: www.nme.com/news/oasis/23711Oasis collection on the way Band handpick songs for new compilation
Oasis are set to release new collection of songs, 'Stop The Clocks', on November 20.
Though the group deny it's a "greatest hits", the record will be drawn from all of the band's album and single releases, with Oasis picking the 18 tracks set to feature themselves .
Although the tracklisting for the double album is a closely guarded secret, it will feature the classic singles 'Supersonic', 'Wonderwall' and 'The Importance Of Being Idle'.
Also featured is 'Acquiesce', the b-side to 'Some Might Say' that many consider to be one of the band's finest songs.
'Half A World Away' the b-side of 'Whatever' is also featured, which was used on the theme music for The Royle Family.
Check the new issue of NME, which hits the shelves tomorrow (July 26) for an exclusive look at the definite collection, why Oasis are set to become the biggest unsigned band in the world plus an exclusive interview Russell Brand on his up coming gig with Noel Gallagher.*** So that should give us some idea about whether STC will be on the album and maybe a tracklisting? I have to say I'm a little confused by this - 18 tracks but double disc? And of course, is STC gonna be on it? Will Whatever? Will songs that Noel hates like AATW, Roll With It, or Lyla? Will it include, say, Gas Panic! or Don't Go Away?

god this is a stupid idea if true
STC is suppose to be, if we believe Noel, one of THE best Oasis songs....why have it on a greatest hits collection (call it what you will, that's what it basically is)
if it really is THAT good, then put it on the next album
i will be highly dissapointed if STC is placed on a greatest hits, it will down play the song greatly -- only us Oasis fans really will buy their greatest hits, theres more chance in buying a new album, esp one loaded with fantastic stuff (look at DM/MG and even DBTT...)
please lads, dont fuck this up, it doesnt belong on a greatest hits or whatever....it belongs on an actual album!!

You couldn't be more wrong. Stop The Clocks has been given way too much hype to survive a conventional album release. Downplaying it by putting it on a greatest hits CD is exactly what needs to be done. If it's only expected to be something the band put on a greatest hits album to stop it from being a piece of crap and not the 8th day of Creation it's been made out to be people won't be so disappointed in it. Not to mention the only other options would be a standalone single or a b-side, which it's too important for. This album, not another proper release, has a likelihood of becoming the best selling Oasis CD has yet to release in the US. The song will get a broad audience without gambling it on a new album. Plus Noel has said it's unlike anything they've ever done. Why try to make such a unique song fit on an album if you can put it on something where the songs aren't necessarily supposed to blend in perfectly? I Don't Want To Miss A Thing was a huge comeback song for Aerosmith and it was on a freaking soundtrack! To a horrible movie nonetheless! "Only us Oasis fans really will buy their greatest hits" Geez Louise eating cheese riding a sheep, do you know how many casual fans Oasis have that have been told they're just a two album wonder and might buy this to see if that's actually true? It will sell plenty! Don't worry about it!

what if it really is a great tune though?
Would Live Forever/Wonderwall be as big as they are if they were left off their respected albums and appeared on a greatest track listing instead?
i doubt it.
i hope this NME story is bull shit...of course i want to hear STC asap, but i want it on a new and proper album, i want the next album to wake EVERYONE up....and IF STC is THAT good, then it can wait for that album
if it's not a good tune, then i agree with you....but i have a feeling its gonna be mega

Would Live Forever/Wonderwall be as big as they are if they were left off their respected albums and appeared on a greatest track listing instead? No, because Oasis weren't as established before those songs came out as they are now. Those songs were necessary in '94 and '95 to carry albums from a new band, and without them there might not be a greatest hits album to speak of. And if STC truly is on that level, it's unlikely the rest of the next album will be consistent next to it. Maybe if the next one is that last CD Noel wants to release full of the great songs he's kept locked away, but if it's DBTT quality or lesser, it's probably not going to wake up the world. I would look at this as a promise of things to come - people can revisit the bright spots of the band's past and have confirmation that Noel's still got it. Which is kind of needed, since most people are inevitably going to think the newer stuff isn't up to par with the early 90's output.

i agree with Drunken. I think this is the ideal way to release the song. it's been given too much hype and if it doesn't live up to it then it won't be as disappointing. and i don't think it will down play the song. look at The Masterplan. i think that is arguably in their top 3 best songs and it's on a b-side album. it just didn't fit any other album and i think it's the same with STC. there's no use to try and make it fit or have it misplaced on an album. if it's totally different then this is the best way to do it.
- cheers !

not sure if Pet. is taking the piss....but if its a mega track, it belongs on a proper album
if its on the greatest hits - does it still count as an a-side?

Its in a few of the newspapers over here too. From what i can gather the album will be called " stop the clocks " , it doesnt mention that the song will actually be on the album.
I think noel has said at one point that he probably wont ever release STC

Sony is putting the GH wether the band like it or not. Oasis will not split

A greatest hits? How disgusting! They'd better not stick any new stuff on it and make me have to waste a tenner on this shit. If it's called Stop The Clocks and does not contain the song then STC will never be released.

Noel said STC WILL be released one day
it was suppose to be on DBTT, but didnt mix in well and he said he didnt have it perfect yet
does it make sense NOT to release it?
he's been talking about it all the time, talking about many versions...hes trying to get it perfect -- why put all this hard work in 1 track and then never release it -- ever think of this:
Could Noel be naming the album "Stop the Clocks" but leaving STC track off as a harbinger of the new and proper album in 2 yrs or so?
