Nearly two months without any news... I guess most people have already forgotten about it.

Why is the hype train reversing? At least it's not quite as bad as releasing ITHOTM in Oct and the album 6 months later. That was the height of crazy bad marketing.

Oh look, Richard's management has just woken up! New single "Hold On" coming tomorrow morning on BBC Radio 2: I seriously hope this is good. TIHIF has grown on me a bit, despite the awful music video, but it didn't blow me away.

Why is the hype train reversing? To be honest he hasn't been getting any hype since his debut solo album. Even the Verve reunion went by without too much fuss. Sure his last album he did went by without much mention. So unless he releases one of his best written songs he's ever done I think his loyal fanbase will be the only ones picking his new album up.

the new song is much better than the first one, its actually made me want to listen to it again, as I said before theres nothing exactly wrong with this is how it feels, its just something weve heard a million times over from ashcroft.
I like the more modern feel and the strings are probably the best part, just great, its got enough for me to keep going back to it and I will probably end up loving it.
his voice is still amazing, hasnt lost a step.

I think I know what's missing.
The dark tones of the Verve.
A Northern Soul contains some of the most darkest songs in rock in my opinion, and Richard's solo work has none of it really. Combined with McCabe's guitar tones, he loses that sense.
The new song's ok, but it's abit too upbeat for me.

While I'm really liking the new song at the moment I agree with you: Richard's finest work deals with darker moods and themes. (and let's not start talking about Nick McCabe... what an insanely underrated guitar hero he is!)
