Oh definitely Liverpool, albeit both are bad. West Ham are probably next on the list, believing they're entitled to great football as that's the "West Ham way" when in reality I can't remember West Ham being better than a boring mid-table team in my lifetime and they've often been worse. At least with Liverpool it is based on past success whereas Newcastle don't seem to have won anything in decades. Thats why i think they are worse. Yeah that's true. Newcastle just seem to think they're a big club though, I think Liverpool are worse in that they think they're "more than a football club" and all that nonsense.

i will never understand the hate for BIG SAM from fans ,especially from fans from clubs that dont have a huge budget ... think BOLTON misses his boring football he ha them in europe as high as 6 th in premeirship , he left and bolton is a championship side now he waswnt given a chabce at tyneside .and there noty exactlly a top club he has made west ham who werew relegated a few years ago . a respectable 12 and a sold top teir club .....boring maybe , i guess people with low budgets want exciting footy and relegation dramas ..... BIG SAM doesent do that he just plods along andf keeps small teams in epl ..... dont get it Everybody would love to see their team to play good football, and there are teams who do it without being contenders or having huge budgets,Garry Monk is doing it with Swansea,Pochettino has done it with Southampton and Koeman is carrying on with the same attitude,Palace did it last year There are teams here in Italy like Sassuolo and Empoli who've been playing the best football in the league for the whole year despite fighting for relegation (Empoli even kept the same side as last year when they were in the second league bar a couple of addictions) and it paid off Of course when you're staying up and doing it pretty much safely it means your manager has done a respectable work, but you don't want to see your team playing boring football, the perfect manager is someone who can make a team effective and enjoyable at the same time, and there are lots of guys not just in the Premier League who have showed they're able to do that dont really get your point ,,so your saying he should be sacked because his results arent pretty you watch nba basketball if your team is a playoff contender and wins , would you want your coach sacked ?? i wouldnt in the NFL if you like a team that runs instead of passes you want coach fired for getting same result ? big sam made bolton a top 10 club , he was in top 10 much of this year and ended 12th because others can do it prettier he should lose a job not in my book i understant others do it with flair , but the hammers draw well in upton pk and it beats relegation battle

yeah, you can be a mid-table team and still play good football. and the main point is with big sam's style you will only ever be a mid-table team. its a declaration that youre not even trying to improve. at some point, if you want to try and push for europe, you need a tactical manager. e.g. southampton, spurs. and west ham used to play good football while being mid-table. with those fantastic teams we had in the mid 90s/early 00's. rio, lamps, joe cole, glen johnson, defoe, carrick, di canio. harry knew how to make a team and make them play. granted it didnt help with crashing into europe, but at least they were playing real football, not this pathetic english long ball bullsh!t... kalas, youre NFL/NBA comparisons dont really cross over to football...west ham arent play off contenders and passing/running games arent like long ball vs short passes.

But even if we talk about the NBA,New Orleans and Boston both got a playoff spot despite not being favourites, both got out in the first round against superior teams,Monty Williams got the sack,Brad Stevens didn't (and rightly so)
You can be a mid-table team, but I'd rather be Swansea than West Ham

I must admit I'm not a fan of Allardyce and his style of play, and I do believe he hits a ceiling by which he can't progress further than 6th-8th. His style of football saves clubs by regimenting players to very rigid and organised systems. The downside to that is it doesn't let real talent flourish. He reminds me of Roy Hodgson - remember his disastrous spell at Liverpool when good players looked utter crap under him, then Kenny came back and let them off the leash so to speak, and results turned around. The difference between West Ham and the other clubs Allardyce has managed is that they are a far bigger club than other clubs he's had - no disrespect to those clubs! Newcastle a big club? Yes, but as we all know, Mike Ashley is a terrible owner, and while Gold, Sullivan and Brady aren't that popular, they are competent owners. Like you say, West Ham have had a history of playing good attacking football, and it would be nice to see them get back to their traditional ways. In addition to moving to a state of the art big stadium (Olympic Park!), this is a big opportunity for West Ham to really step up and join the second tier just below the top four - and I think it is a great opportunity to mix it with Spurs and Liverpool - the teams that are just outside the top four. Who knows, give Klopp a shout! Benitez would have been good, but Madrid have stolen him. I think it would be worth taking a punt on one of the younger managers in Europe like Frank De Boer, good attacking football, good eye for a player and he seems to have got Ajax up and running again.

Mourinho has won manager of the year. Fucking criminal. How the man who hasn't won any Manager of the Month awards, wins it for the year, I don't understand. Yeah, that makes as much sense as it being possible to be Champions of Europe but not Champions of England. Also, his "speech" wasn't as comical as many think. Sure, I chuckled at the truthness involved, but wasn't anything groundbreaking. At least Arsene speaks with dignity, and dry and witty humor. Maureen got old a decade ago. And be forewarned, Arsenal's squad are very close to not only a challenge but a complete usurp of power next season.

Hence why they are so successful in international football and England aren't!

Really disappointed with the Premiership this year. Even Chelsea, with the fantastic squad they have, failed to impress for the majority of it. Diabolical league all around. Just imagine what a couple signings for l'Arse will do this summer. We are truly practically there. BELIEVE.

Look, I love The Coq - his passion and energy and drive is something we haven't seen with Arsenal since The Invincibles, The Coq will die for the badge. But he can't do it alone, and Arteta and Flamini are too old: 1. A DM 2. Conventional Striker 3. Either GK or LB (Niether will happen, AW has too much faith in both). But if we buy 2 out of those 3 positions, we'll be properly challenging.

kalas what do you mean by the NFL is up there with european leagues in popularity? do you mean the US only? that would suprise me. and i know you cant mean world wide... and you keep comparing the game to the NFL. its just not comparable. your points dont cross over...football is too big to compare to a one nation, 36 team league, all playing in a single division (i dont mean regional divisions). as for mourinho winning MotY without getting a monthly award; you can have a great month and sh!tty year. or you can have a great season by having average months...as long as the average is still a winning percentage. honestly, for his overall consistency and the fact he won the league, im not shocked he got it. most other managers had at least a couple of cr@p months... his speech was alright, but he gave united way too much credit. they didnt play attractive attacking football?! they played boring long ball or crosses most of the time.

Yes I meant worldwide the European leauges are and will always be more popular worldwide , But the NFL is gaining popularity in Europe and when they eventually expand to london it will really take off , no question , the euro leauges are worldwide more popular I've been saying that for years, but NFL has made up ground worldwide ,THX to satellite and p,aying in London and nd what part of crossing over you referring g to , my last point was on money sharing which would change the face of euro footy as it did ameican , and most want that as for Europe qualifications spots that most certainly is like our sports because that makes the teams that make EUROPE a lot of money just like american sports clubs make money when there teams make playoffs ,

Haven't read thread in a while so too much indivudal things to quote so will just summarise: West Ham/Allardyce - With the squad West Ham have they shouldn't be in the relegation battle at any point during the season. It is a harsh sacking on Allardyce but such is football. I know it's only two places off but they should be a top half side. Liverpool - With Suarez gone Liverpool have been found out for what they are. They spent big over the last few seasons and nose dived. Rogers is the figure at the center of the attention but United hat off I think he should be given another season without Stevie "Me" and see what he can do. 9 years without a trophy for a (former) big club can't be tolerated by the fans much longer. I hope they suffer! "Top 4" - Will remain the same for a while, United & Arsenal don't have the disposable cash that the owners of City & Chelsea can throw at the manager but still have big bucks. Dissagree with Beady’s Here Now with them needing a "conventional striker", Giroud had a great run in and with Sanchez as a make shift striker could work too. Welbeck is still shit so would need someone better than him. kalas, you can't compare football to way things are done in american sports. There are 92 professional teams in England alone (not to mention the non-leagues) compared to 32 NFL teams. Salary caps won't work like they do in that sport as there are different tax brackets around Europe and mid table top division sides would take decades to turn before falling off again. That's the beauty of football, it can take you many places. If you come out of a YTS scheme and don't make it at a big club, you can make a very good living (prob. too good) playing lower level football and your career isn't over just coz you're not deemed good enough after one season. As mentioned above, comparing a passing & running game is completely different than managerial tactics. Boring/Predictable - The premier league has suffered, but no thanks to Sky and their "Best League in the World" attitude as they threw all the money at it and now is forced down our throats 24/7. "It's always the big teams winning" is an argument always brought up but its been the same in almost every major league. Bayern Munich have run nearly unopposed in most Bundesligas since the turn of the century, Real & Barca dominated Spain for longer than this, both finishing on 90+ points this season. Juve back in control over the Milan's in Italy - need to go back to '01 since none of them 3 won a scudetto. So it's not just the Premiership that is like this. My post is long enough to go into anything else if your after reading all that!

But if we buy 2 out of those 3 positions, we'll be properly challenging. I say this to myself in my sleep - DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER!! Definitely the most important area for me. Arsenal have never truly replaced Patrick Vieira - missed out on Yaya Toure, which would have been the logical decision given Kolo was at the club during the time. Likes of Flamini are good, but they aren't world beaters. They need an absolute beast in the midfield again - far too many small players in that central midfield and some English teams out muscle them too easily. The best Arsenal sides were the ones with continental supreme flair and force brutality. They've lost the latter ever since the Invincibles broke off. Get it back and they will challenge. The only way is up for Arsenal - their prudence over the years has paid off, the stadium is finally making amends, and constant Champions League football means the revenues are flowing now. We can see that with the bigger signings in recent years - the signing of Ozil is a watershed moment in Arsenal now, where they can finally compete for massive players. Expect that to continue. Wenger's a smart man, and will set things up pertly for the next manager - and who that next manager will be, I think he will have a say at least a year in advance. He's not the man to make such a decision to retire on whim, it will be thoroughly planned I think. I don't necessarily think he will win the league again, but I think his priority is getting them in best shape on and off the field for the next manager to soar. If you want direct comparisons, think of Bill Shankly at Liverpool - built the club up, won shitloads, and then went 7 years without winning a trophy before building a final successful league and cup double, before handing over to Paisley who went on to win, I think, 6 leagues and 3 European Cups in 8 years. Like Shankly, Wenger's work will be a springboard to future success for Arsenal.
