Today is the 35th anniversary of Meat Is Murder. This video was just released on the official Smiths YT: This album was the first album by The Smiths I listened to. I actually found an original 12” copy of this album yesterday! (Bought it of course, $25) Only once before in my record collecting life (20 years now) have I found an original vinyl Smiths album. That was The Queen is Dead and I bought it for $10 about fifteen years ago. |

"Some things just drop out of heavens" says Marr and this song was one of them. (from Simon Goddard's book) "It's a beautiful piece of music" - Johnny. This one and the one from "Still Ill" are absolute two of my favourite and the best Smiths riffs. |

Oh yeah Johnny! I've got a Jazzmaster guitar which I always keep in an open-E tuning... whenever I pick it up I always strum the intro of The Headmaster Ritual and I feel like a god every time  |

Brilliant guitarist and from what ive heard a decent chap.
The Smiths were before my time but after my parents’, so ive never fully gotten into them. But a bit like Squire in the Stone Roses, even if youre not a diehard fan you cant deny hes good at his job.
At my old work a few years back they had his autobiography, and that was a really entertaining read.

The gunbarrel theme from the new Bond movie... It's just a few notes and a chord but Johnny's playing is recognizable even here.

I think Meat Is Murder is possibly my favourite from The Smiths. It was The Queen Is Dead for so long, and while Meat does not reach the ultimate highs of Queen Is Dead, I do think it's possibly Johnny Marr's best work all round.

Album starts with Headmaster Ritual by marvelous Johnny's riff and Well I Wonder brings me tears. So beautiful. Meanwhile Johnny's working on his new album. Go Johnny, go go! |
