Well, it looks like Sony's putting out that Greatest Hits album. Here's my idea:
DON'T BUY IT!
Think about it, Sony is putting out music which the musicians do not want put out, just to cash in. If Oasis fans got together and didn't buy it, that'd stick it to Sony good!
What do you think? Is that a good protest?

1. how you know its coming out? live4ever.proboards48.com/index.cgi?board=Band&action=display&thread=1152799535If they do the improbable and put a new song or two on it, I'll buy it. If there's cool artwork or something special in the liner notes or something like that, I'll buy it. If they just put their singles on it with a shitty picture on the cover, no thanks. But boycotting anything is silly. I'll get it f one of the bonuses is I Can See It Now. Don't want to pay 30-50 bucks on ebay to get the Japanese DBTT just for one song.

It's like a 'Catch 22' sort of. Do I want them to have a greatest hits cd that they are not wanting to have out. No I'm not.
However, if Sony promotes it and casual fans or people that just own Morning Glory or maybe Definitely Maybe, Morning Glory & Be Here Now (especially people in the states) then I hope it does well. They can hear the other songs like Whatever, Go Let It Out, Stop Crying You're Heart Out, Hindu Times, Stand By Me, Acquiesce, Little By Little, Lyla,Importance Of Being Idle etc.
May turn casual fans onto the less popular albums.
If I see it in the stores it will be hard not buy just to see what it says on the inside.

I doubt it'll have songs like Acquiesce ot the Masterplan on it cos they weren't singles and I think that's what sony will do, just put all the singles in one album and that would be shit. I do think that they'll put one or two new songs on it but they're probably gonna be weak songs that didn't make it to DBTT
it should be a double album including songs like Slide Away, Gas Panic, Don't Go away (although this was a single in japan)... etc. but I highly doubt it, and I doubt Sony will promote it just as they didin't do enough for promoting the last 3 albums, at least in the US and other parts of the world

I dunno about this....smells like crap to me... I mean you hardly promote them for the last 3 album...and now you want to rape them for more money...cos they wont resign with you?... Isn't the music industry just wonderful??!

I think Aquiesce was a radio single in the U.S. when The Masterplan was released.
Plus 'singles' in the U.S. usually signify radio play. They don't sell singles in the U.S. like they do in UK.

if its one of those awful essential albums that dylan and micheal jackson had out in the last year it will be shite, a black & white photo on front and thats that, they annoy me cus you just know the artist had nothing to do with it

What we should do is flood the web with copies of the disk, preferably before it hits stores. Hell, we all have the songs that'll be on there already, and we're sure to get a tracklisting at some point. Spread it all over, all the torrent sites, all the filesharing nets, all the DC hubs, all the forums, etc etc. Screw legality, Sony's a bunch of vaginas.
If someone wants to hear Oasis' "greatest," let 'em have it, I say. But if we all can take $10 each out of Sony/BMGs pockets by getting one person to steal it off the 'net rather than buy it, then I'm all for it.

Greatest hits might not be so bad, so long as they make it comprehensive with all their singles and a new song or two. How many singles are there? must be close to 30?

How many singles are there? must be close to 30? 23 released conventionally. 24 if you consider that Little By Little/She Is Love was a double a-side. 26 if you count the Australian Morning Glory and Champagne Supernova, which some consider promos, but I don't.

Does that include Where Did It All go Wrong and Dont Go Away? They were both released as singles outside the UK too.

Includes DGA but not WDIAGW. According to Wikipedia that was a promotional single that was sent out to clubs and radio stations, so I don't count it.

fair enough, although where did it all go wrong did have a cool video clip released too, i reckon it should be added to the list. Was definitely a better pick than Sunday morning call

I remember reading an interview with Noel who said he didnt want Soney releasing a greatest hits album but if they did he'd get involved as he didnt want them fu*king up the bands good name be releasing something crap. So here's hoping they get involved, give us a decent greatest hits album - the kind of length REM gave us - and theres a bit of new material on it - 2 or 3 tracks and i'd be Heres a link to an extract from the interview: www.mtv.tv/mtv.tv/dynamo/shells/shows.jhtml;jsessionid=3KU5GIOG4A2LXQFIAIHSFFGAVABBAIV0?article=40133066

It'll probably be a single disc. It's conceivable that a double-disc set may be released in Europe, but elsewhere, and in the U.S., a double-disc wouldn't be commercially viable.
And I've made Oasis compilations in the past on iTunes - because of the length of Oasis songs, a single disc isn't going to hold any more than 15, at most 16 songs, so it's going to be a pretty tight fit trying to make it comprehensive.
It'll probably include 3 songs from DM, 4 or 5 songs from MG, 2 or 3 from BHN, 1 from SOTSOG, 1 from HC, and 2 from DBTT; maybe a b-side and maybe Whatever as well. It'll probably just be the hits - singles mainly, although Champagne Supernova will definitely be included. Don't Go Away is probable too (esp. in the American edition) and maybe if Noel gets involved he'll have them include Gas Panic! instead of GLIO or WFL from SOTSOG.
If we're lucky we'll get a limited-edition second disc of b-sides that weren't on the Masterplan; it'd be best if most were from the "classic" era (94-98) with just a few from the last 3 albums to round it out, since the b-sides since '98 have been a lot more inconsistent and in general worse.
