Let's have some fun, here. Since we all like this band (I haven't met an Oasis fan who doesn't....), thought this would be a good idea. You can only choose one song, as incredibly fucking hard as that is. It's incredibly ironic that their b-side collection, "Turns into Stone", is better than their follow up second album (which isn't terrible as people make it out to be, but it's not great either. The b-sides, however, are great). Now where else have we seen this pattern? Hmmmm...... But the drumming intro to Elephant Stone, the perfect pop song in Sally Cinnamon, the eerily encapsulating ballad that is Made of Stone, the jamming of both I'm the Resurrection and Fools Gold, the utter, utter, UTTER especially musical bliss that is This Is The One....picking one track is neigh on impossible. But we're going to do it, damn it. I've always had a soft spot for Where Angels Play. The lyrics, and the melancholic yet uplifting guitar riff outro is so heartbreaking, yet so promising at the same time - some might say (sorry) that the contrasting, and at times emotionally contradicting intertwined sounds and lyrics created a lot of Noel's songwriting craftsmanship and served as a template for Oasis' more downbeat tracks. I want to waver, I really do. Now that I got a high quality version of This Is The One, which really is EPICALLY A FUCKING EPIC EPICCCCCCCCCCCCCCC (Did I mention that it's epic?) MUSICAL EXPLOSION....Burn Me Out or Bring Me Home..... But I'm sticking with Where Angels Play. There's something innocent about it, yet menacing at the same time. I find it rather charming. Your turn (10 quid says that the majority will choose Made of Stone, yer bunch of sellouts ).

I'm also going to go with a b-side, Mersey Paradise. That song just seems to have all the things I love about the Stone Roses, chiming guitars, Reni's unique upbeat drumming, and a great vocal from Ian Brown. I read its about drowning Margaret Thatcher, which as a 20 year old American means nothing to me, but I like the political type songs masquerading as poppy goofy songs.
Haha, funny enough I often skip Made of Stone when I listen to that album as a whole, (Don't Stop as well), I just find it wore out its welcome for me after the first couple of listens, but every other song on the album still sounds fresh to me.

Standing Here - one of the best outros ever. I love Mersey Paradise too.
Everyone bangs on about I Am The Resurrection and - for the first half of the song - quite rightly, because it has one of the most soaring choruses you'll ever hear. However, I usually skip it once the long jam comes on at the end - for me, it just meanders and seems a bit pointless, spoiling an otherwise great tune. But perhaps that last section is made for a live setting and in that context, I can see the point of it.

Surprised only one person has said Resurrection!
And I've not heard Turns to Stone or any of these B-sides...I'll have to look into that.
But for my one...I'd say Waterfall.

i used to not like the Stone Roses that much. i feel that way about quite a few of Oasis' band likes, particularly Noel's recommendations. some of the songs he plays as a guest d.j. for instance, baffle me, but i've really came around to the Stone Roses, amazing musicians. 'Love Spreads' is probably my favorite song by them. also haven't heard that b-sides collection, have to check that out.
Thanks.

I'm not as big a Stone Roses fan as some people, I don't think either of their albums would make my top 50 albums ever but I do think they have some decent songs;
This is The One and Made of Stone are two of my favourites but I'm going to go for a completely different type of tune and pick Begging You, it sounds a lot like 90's U2 which I like and turned up loud it sounds mega
PS I hate to be picky but Turn Into Stone isn't strictly a B-side album like The Masterplan is. Elephant Stone, Fools Gold/What The World is Waiting For and One Love were all non-album singles
